Earlier this year when we had a chance to catch up with Danny MacAskill at Sea Otter, he mentioned he had something in the works with Red Bull. At the time even Danny wasn’t sure exactly how it was going to work out calling it ‘quite the ambitious project.’ That’s all he would let on, but we’re assuming he was referring to his newest video, a Wee Day Out.  As usual, the riding is next level and the sound track is on point, but even for Danny, the riding is incredible. Certainly some of the most creative moves on a bike yet…

Every time. Every time I watch a Danny Mac video, I think, “Well that’s it, you can’t get any more creative or ballsy than that.” And I’m blown away, every time.

I appreciate the screw up clips at the end. Being this good is something that took constant practice, and drilling, and failing before he got so awesome..

It’s really good to hear his brakes squeak like that.

I don’t use the phrase “Best (blank) ever” lightly, but I think it applies to both Danny and this video. It is literally fantastic.

Love that he’s a goof. The outtakes were the best.

What kind of rear hub is he using that is multi-speed AND will rotate backwards like a freecoaster?

In the outtakes he says that he put a spare wheel in for that scene, which had the pawls removed from the hub. You can also see him taking a run and jump onto the bike to get up to speed behind the hay bale.

Back in the day Aaron chase did a similar thing taking the 2 hardest gears off his cassette and replacing them with spacers.

Danny teaches you new tricks and teaches you how to save yourself as well.

Genius. Love that it does not have “a tough feel, skulls n death look and no doof doof music”. I can show this not non-mtbers and it does an awful lot for how cyclists are viewed. Well done Redbull for breaking the “go big go bad” image with something really over the top. On ya Danny

Great video, just superb. I will show this to my children – esp. my 5 year old daughter who isn’t convinced that anyone needs to practice – for that reason alone I love the outtakes.

Plus choosing The Divine Comedy’s National Express as the soundtrack is inspired. I’m perhaps a little biased as a Divine Comedy fan, but still… great.
