2017 Bombtrack Hook EXT 275 road plus gravel adventure bike

To go bigger off the beaten patch, Bombtrack took their Hook 2 and spread everything out to create the Hook EXT. It’s the second bike in their line to use 27.5 mountain bike tires on an frame that looks like a road bike, but it sticks to standard MTB tires rather than the oversized rubber on their recently introduced Beyond Plus bike.

That doesn’t mean things are small here. They had to spread the chainstays and fork legs to fit the wider rubber, which led to some customization to make it all work…

They couldn’t find a road fork with the right clearance or a 29er fork that had the right axle-to-crown measurements. So, the fork is a full carbon cyclocross fork that they had customized to get more tire clearance. Note the much wider crown and leg spacing…that’s custom to them for this particular fork. Throw in fender mounts and you’ve got the makings for a true all season, multi purpose bike.

Helping that functionality are rack mounts on the dropouts and seatstays.

BB386 and a chainstay yoke plate make it possible to run up to a 27.5×2.2, even with a double chainring.

The Hook EXT gets a Columbus Crromor double butted tubeset with SRAM Rival 1 for $2,199.

One of their best selling bikes outside of the U.S. is the steel framed Tempest road bike. For 2017, it gets a thru axle disc brake option, with the new tapered head tube.

They have come out with some pretty cool bikes, but almost no presence in the states. I see they have a distributor in Iowa. I guess my LBS has to order from them. No option for direct sales that I can see.
