After debuting dual-sided power measurement for the road at Tour Down Under this year, 4iiii continues their product development momentum with a new dual sided MTB power meter to fit Shimano XTR M9000-series Trail and Race cranks.

The double pod system is super simple, which is merely another of their original left-side pods put onto the driveside crankarm. It works because the mountain bike chainrings are smaller than road, where they had to use a separate strain gauge and transmitter. They started with XTR Trail and Race because their pods fits that Q-Factor and many frames, but bikes with wider chainstays (like many newer Boost bikes) may not work with it…yet. They’re working on a slimmer pod design that’ll fit more mountain bikes…and triathlon, TT and aero road bikes that have less clearance between the crank arms and stays. The current pod is about 8mm, they’re looking to get it down between 6-6.5mm…

There’s a fit guide and template you can print from their website to see if it fits, then order their “Ride Ready” kit where it’s preinstalled on a new XTR Trail or Race crankset. Or send them your existing M9000 cranks and they’ll mount it for you and send them right back. Pricing TBD, but they’ll be available starting mid October.
