Earlier this spring Bryton announced a couple of new, but still affordable GPS computers that will add a bit more functionality than the 310 that we reviewed back in January. One of those updates was WiFi connectivity that was aimed to connect the devices wirelessly to a mobile Bryton App for more route planning functions and activity uploads, but now with an update to their app Bryton are bringing some of that added connectivity even to their existing, cheaper Rider computers. Read on to see how you can update your existing Rider cycling computer over the air, for wireless Strava uploads…

When we first heard of the Rider 100 & Rider 310, Bluetooth 4.0 was listed as one of their features for mobile device connectivity, but now with the latest update of their app for iOS and Android, Bryton has that finally brought the functionality to take advantage of the communication chip already on board these computers. The Bryton App only debuted in May 2016, and originally only offered WiFi links to the just released 330 & 530, but now it has added BT connectivity which is said to support the Rider 100, 200, 210 & 310. (Those 200 series ones are new to us, so maybe they have more new products in the pipeline?)

While wireless uploads and syncing have typically been hallmarks of more top-tier products, Bryton wanted from the start to be able to bring such connectivity to all price points, and is why the had put the Bluetooth chips even on their $70 Rider 100 even when they hadn’t fully developed the background capabilities.

Updating your Bryton Rider is easy, just download the free Bryton App from your mobile device and pair it in the app’s settings together with the device’s unique ID code found on its back. Set up your Bryton account, pair it with Strava if you want, and you can then sync all of your data to the app.

Stoked! I decided to get a Bryton 310 because everyone I know rides with a Garmin and I thought it would be worth exploring what Bryton had to offer, especially at the 310’s price point.

It’s always great to see a company support their entire product line with updates such as this.

I bought one of these (310) a few months ago to replace my broken Garmin 510. I just couldn’t justify another 300 dollar purchase that randomly stops working after two years.

Overall, it’s just ok compared to the garmin though. I don’t need the fancy pants touch stuff or profiles or anything but speed, time, distance, 3s power, and heart rate to be on my display. If it did all that reliably, I’d be thrilled with it. Instead, it seems to take about 4-5 minutes sometimes to find the GPS signal, and about 1 in 5 times it drops all my ANT+ sensors during a ride and just shows zero for power and heart rate.

Maybe a firmware update will tighten it up, until then I’m unfortunately looking at spending another 300$ on a garmin.

@Bill, there’s no way any GPS devices would need 4-5 minutes to find GPS signal LOL although you can always connect your device to a computer and update your GPS data once in a while, that would help greatly.

hey issac..hope you still remember me..one of the guys you sent a 310 to.. 🙂
The 310 is bombproof!…been using it ever since you sent it and totally love it.. recommended it to a few friends and they bought ’em. All I can say say it works flawlessly and for a fraction of the cost of a garmin you get the same features you would need on a ride and training.

I got an issue on the new android app though..I cant seem to logon using anything? The old app works though.. Are there any issues with the new app?
