In what is perhaps going to be a massive inventory headache, Industry Nine is soon to launch AnOLab (Anodizing Laboratory), an online custom wheel builder that’ll let you pick and choose every part of the wheel then have it custom built.

To kick it off, they’re at Crankworx Whistler with a demo where anyone can work up their dream build and submit it to the hot-or-not Interwebs for voting. If yours is most popular, you could win a set of Torch Classic mountain bike hubs. Each days’ winner makes it to the weekend finals, where one winner will take home a complete wheelset. Not at Crankworx? Follow along on their social media, but you’ll need to be at the event to vote.

So many choices today but sadly no quality bikes or gear with low price.
Why can’t a person get a quality wheelset for say 200$/€?

Gear manufacturers are trying to differentiate themselves with all these cosmetic gimmicks but when it comes to building good gear a lot of them fall short because engineering and manufacturing is far more complex trade than design.

Nonsense. There’s plenty of good low cost choices. The $600 bikes of today are far more capable that the $600 bikes of 25 years ago.
That said – I agree that I9 is a marketing company rather than an engineering company, which is why I use chris king hubs.

Mac: Nonsense that comment shows a total lack of understanding of the I9 product, sounds like your more caught up telling people you use CK than riding bikes.

Aaaaand a Nonsense to Mr. Rocket. It would seem you have thoroughly enjoyed your glass of kool-aid if you think there is anything new or hidden to ‘understand’ about a pawl system hub. Some are a bit better than others, but in the end its an inherently weak design idea.
CK or DT are two very reliable options that come to mind…..and unfortunately not many others.
