Forget cross, winter is coming. And that means fat bikes on snow. To prepare, 45NRTH has been busy revisiting some of their most popular fat bike tires. They’ve been working on some completely new models as well, but those aren’t quite ready for a first look.

Instead, we got a sneak peek at the new Hüsker Dü and Dillinger 4 which both see revised tread patterns to help improve their ride and round out the line up…

The new Hüsker Dü was spotted on many of the new Salsa fat bikes that were on display at Saddle Drive. In this case, 45NRTH actually removed a few knobs and increased the height of the shoulder knobs to make a faster tire that still grips when cornering. We assume this is due to the Van Helga taking the place as the aggressive 4″ tire in the line, while the Hüsker Dü will be more of the race/xc option. We’re told that all of the 4″ tires are now on the same tubeless ready casings with 60 and 120 tpi options.

The Dillinger 4 also sees reshaped cornering knobs and reshaped intermediate knobs that are slightly taller. To be offered in 60 and 120 tpi casings, the tires will be tubeless ready and sold in studded or studless versions.

These will likely be hitting store shelves by the end of August, with much more from 45NRTH to come!

Wonder if QBP is sending Hüsker Dü and D4 royalty checks for name usage. Bob Mould needs new glasses, and Billy needs new tap lines at the Triple Rock.

Their naming strategy is nothing new. I trust if it was an issue we would’ve seen some changes and/or heard about it. I’m not a lawyer, but I also understand there’s some sort of “fair use” allowance for trademarked names if the products are different enough. I doubt anybody is confusing a bike tire with music.

True. Husker Du did get their name from a board game, and Dillinger 4 was not exactly original, either.

They should also pay Japanther for the shoes…

They weren’t before which lead to at least one local shop being reluctant to carry their products.

I eagerly await tires also named ‘Articles of Faith’, ‘Naked Raygun’, and ‘Dow Jones and the Industrials’!!!

I am a little disappointed to see the Husker Dus still sporting the smaller studs.
