All-new BH Ultralight EVO Disc marries disc brakes to 790g frame

By blending the feathery frame construction of the latest Ultralight EVO road bike with the more recently introduced G7 Disc, the new BH Ultralight EVO Disc puts material where it needs to be to handle the altered braking forces while still hitting a 790g claimed frame weight. That’s only 90g more than the standard rim brake EVO model.

The bike uses flat mount disc brakes front and rear, allowing the use of either 140mm or 160mm rotors, with 12mm thru axles on both ends. Final specs, pricing and builds won’t be announced until Eurobike (late August), but we’ve got pics…

Up front is a tapered headtube with all cables/hoses/wires entering the downtube directly behind it. Modular plugs let your swap group types in the future…or just keep the frame clean should you go wireless.

The original BH Ultralight introduced the BB386EVO standard to the world, and it’s used here, too. The design pairs an 86.5mm wide shell with a 30mm spindle for the stiffest combo out there. For disc brake bikes, it offers another benefit in that the chainstays are already set wide from the base of the BB shell, so there’s a less dramatic transition to the 5mm wider axle spacing out back.

Thin, shaped seatstays likely help keep the ride comfortable. Like the rim brake model, the Ultralight EVO Disc has no rider weight limit. Geometry is race ready (sloping top tube, 402mm chainstays), favoring fast crit-style riding, yet it’ll accommodate tires up to 30mm wide.

Race geometry (me likey BH Ultralight EVO geometry) and 30mm tire clearance. These are good times we live in. Not great though as I can’t afford an Ultra EVO. Wah Wah.

I like the wider crank idea to help the chainline on short chainstay bikes, but not when cranks look like that…
