Originally only offered as the Scraper i45 (with a 45mm width), the new i40 fills the gap between it and the Asym i35 rims to offer the perfect fit for 2.8 mountain bike tires.

“We introduced our first plus-sizes tires on the Scraper i45 rim and it quickly became a choice pairing for usage with our 3.0” tires, but it seems an equal amount of riders now prefer 2.8” tires for trail riding,” says Jason Moeschler, WTB’s global OEM sales manager. “We wouldn’t consider either width to be the ideal option or better performing choice, but rather consider it a case of preference. The Scraper i40 rims will hit the rim width sweet spot for those who prefer to ride 2.8” tires.”

In addition to the new width, the manufacturing process used for all of their Scraper rims has switched to a sleeved design. They say this makes for cleaner manufacturing and a straighter rim than is usually seen on welded-seam rims. Weights and pricing are:

  • Scraper i40 27.5 – $124.95 – weight TBD
  • Scraper i45 27.5″ – $124.95 – 697g
  • Scraper i40 29″ – $129.95 – weight TBD
  • Scraper i45 29″ – $129.95 – 735g

That price is $25 less than the original. Available now. The rims use their TCS (tubeless compatible with sealant) profile and an angled “4D” spoke drilling.
