48-in-42-Keep-Brave-Paola-Gianotti

  • Paola Gianotti rides a record 48 States in 42 Days for Keep Brave to support Ugandan women on bikes – After many ultra long distance tours, Guinness World Record rider Paola Gianotti set off at the end of April on a new adventure, and came home with another record, but ultimately a successful Charity Challenge. The goal had been to ride the lower 48 in 48 days or less and to donate at least 48 bikes to Ugandan women. A simple bicycle can make a huge difference in Uganda, offering mobility and opportunity. She was supported  by donations from all over the world and used the trip as a good chance to test Elastic Interface’s most recent Road Performance Women chamois. In the end Gianotti completed the 7456mi/12,000km ride in just 42 days and 3 hours to hit all 48 states, and raised enough money to donate 70 bikes. KeepBrave.com

Cycling in News

  • Kevin Durant delivered his shoes by bicycle to NYC customers – The USA Today’s sports section and sneakerhead site Solecollector.com reported on NBA star Kevin Durant as he was riding around New York City last weekend delivering his newest Nike KD 9 Premieres to fans who had bought the shoes online. The new special edition kicks that celebrate his upcoming Olympics appearance have been sought after and when they were available for pre-order there probably wasn’t much thought that Durant himself would be delivering your online order.

Recalls

  • Ridley disc brake bikes with QR skewers… – Let’s just say that if you have a disc brake bike with quick release skewers, try to see if you can fold the QR close to the rotor. If so, flip it around so the lever is on the opposite side of your disc brakes, then go talk to the local bike shop where you bought the bike about getting them replaced. Ridley sent us a note to add to reiterate to cyclists that many bikes sold equipped with disc brakes and a front quick release lever can come into contact with the front disc brake when improperly adjusted or left open while riding. Go to QuickReleaseRecall.com to see if you are affected, no matter who made your bike.
  • Clif recalling CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix energy bars in Canada – The bars affected were imported from the US and sold across Canada. Their ingredient supplier, SunOpta, was found to have distributed sunflower kernels that may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L.mono.) Clif Bar has not received any reports of illness; however, initiated A voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution. Only some of the CLIF BAR Sierra Trail Mix bars are affected. Head over to ClifBar.ca to see if your bars should get tossed.
  • Honey Stinger Protein Chews being called back – In another on the bike nutrition recall, EN-R-G Foods, the company behind Honey Stinger, is issuing a voluntary action to get some affected Protein Chews out of the market. Short of a recall, EN-R-G food has tested the Honey Stinger Protein Chews, and found no pathogen or undeclared allergen to date, but since they have received several consumer reports of nausea and vomiting shortly after consuming them they’ve decided to get that batch out of the market. So they are now asking that you DO NOT EAT and DISCARD any Honey Stinger Protein chews you may have while they continue our investigation. Only three flavors (Cherry Lime, Raspberry, Juneberry) of Protein Chews introduced in January 2016 are at issue. Check out full details of the issue and whether you are affected at: HoneyStinger.com
