Made of 6063 aluminum and chromoly steel, the new RockyMounts SplitRail comes in at just 44lb for a two bike carrier. The rack brings plenty of modern features despite the low weight, including independent cable locks for each bike, adjustable tray positioning to keep your bikes from touching and a built-in locking hitch pin.

Available in 1.25″ and 2″ hitch mounts, the 2″ has the ability to add third and fourth bike trays to expand its capacity, up to 160lb of total bike weight. The two-bike base design holds up to 120lb regardless of hitch size, or 60lb per bike.

The trays adjust left or right by four inches to help avoid handlebar/saddle conflicts. Oversized grab handles and levers on the tire hooks make it easy to secure anything from 20″ kids bikes up to 29er mountain bikes, with tires up to 3.2″ wide (so, most plus bikes should fit, but fat bikes will need to look at one of their other models

The release lever is on the end of the center beam, so it’s easy to grab even when fully loaded. Their anti-wobble wedge on hitch mount keeps the entire load stable during transit.

The SplitRail retails for $519.95, and each single-bike add-on is $219.95.

Ouch, I don’t get why these are so expensive. Hitch racks used to be much cheaper than roof racks.

Ok, it costs as much as a 1up, and I’m sure it’s almost as good a rack despite no fat option and all that plastic.

44# is light? What does a T2 weigh?

T2 means Ton Squared so, 4,000 lbs.

“…it costs as much as a 1up, and I’m sure it’s almost as good a rack despite no fat option and all that plastic.”

How would “all that plastic” make this rack “almost as good” as an all-metal 1UP?

@flatbiller: that’s called sarcasm. Why would you pay as much for something almost as good anyway?

I bought the Southpark hitch rack(Which was cheaper). I think it is some garbage rack from China they they put Rocky Mounts stickers on. Rusted, bolts fell out, rubbed bikes, and a bike almost fell out once. I am now scared to this brand. Sorry to talk sh*t about a small company, but I was pretty dissatisfied in my purchase. This looks better though.

If they can’t bring the goods, may as well talk sh*t. I have a 1UP hitch rack on one car, and a couple of Rockymounts pitchforks and Yakima highrollers on another. Nothing comes close to the 1UP in quality and ease of use, the Rockymounts racks are a distant 3rd (5th if I include my previous Thule/yakima fork mounts)…

This could be fatbike ready with such a small adjustment. WHY WOULDN’T YOU JUST DO THAT?!

Looking at this rack for purchase. What adjustment could be made to accommodate a fat bike? Thanks

It may not be a 1UP, but the fact that the trays can be moved to avoid saddle/handlebar contact makes it far better than any Kuat I’ve ever used…

I really like Rocky Mount Roof mounts. But, my favorite for the hitch is the Saris Freedom Superclamp. The 2 bike version only weighs 32 lbs. and can hold up to 60 lbs per bike.
