Niterider 35mm handle bar mount remote light switchIMG_4017

Sometimes, electronics on your ride are inevitable. Like if you want to go for a night ride and don’t have the night vision capabilities of the local wildlife. In the case of Niterider, there are a few new additions to existing products that will make mounting and using those electronics a bit easier. Not only has Niterider added the ability to control certain lights without moving your hand from the bar, they’ve also added the ability to adapt to evolving handlebar standards…

Available exclusively on the Pro 3600 and Pro 2800, Niterider’s new remote is hard wired into the headlight which means it can’t be added to other models. But the remote will allow you to switch through modes on your light which could come in handy given the Pro DIY series’ ability to customize the light outputs and the multiple modes offered on the Enduro Remote models. The Pro Series Enduro battery has also been upgraded to include a USB charging port that you can use to power whatever it is that needs some juice. Pricing for the Remote equipped lights starts at $449 for the 2800 Enduro.

Another ‘big’ development for Niterider is the addition of a 35mm handlebar mount. One of those things that really doesn’t seem that important until your new bike shows up with 35mm bars and you can’t mount your lights where you want, the mount is about 2 months out for production. Expect it to retail for about $29.99 and will fit all Pro Series lights.

The Barfly

The Barfly always seems to have some interesting items on display, and they did not disappoint at Sea Otter. Rather than just new computer mounts, BarFly is experimenting with this clever tire lever/co2 inflator combination. Still in prototype form, the finished product will be sold in a set of two levers, one with the co2 inflator built in and the other just as a standard tire lever.

Over on the computer mounts, BarFly had a prototype mount on display for the new Cervelo Aero handlebar that was debuted with the new S5. Obviously still well in the prototype phase with the 3D printed mount, you can probably expect something in the near future given the fact that it was out in the open.

For other mounting needs BarFly now has a mount to fit nearly ever device on the market with the addition of dual mounts for top and bottom use. Broken down into the most basic categories, you have the direct stem mounts, Road Mini and Road Max, MTB, , TT, and Spoon mounts each with replaceable guts to fit Garmin, Polar, Mio, Wahoo, and Magellan computers plus a number of accessories underneath like cameras, lights, junction boxes, etc.

K-Edge

In addition to some rebranding, over at K-Edge there was a bit of buzz over the recent announcement that Joe Savola and Kristin Armstrong had sold their interest in the company. Basically it means that Eric Jensen bought the controlling interest from Joe who together co-founded K-Edge. With the Olympics nearing, apparently Joe and Kristyin wanted more time to focus on her Olympic goals and now Eric has complete ownership and is the current president. We were assured that it is the same crew behind the product as always, just under a different ownership structure. Which means products like their new dual mounts will continue to offer the same made-in-the-US quality that K-Edge is known for.

The biggest product news from K-Edge is the addition of the Wahoo compatible 1505 mount which replaces the Garmin puck with their own design that was co-developed with Wahoo. Also available in Stem Mounts with the Gravity Cap and Adjustable stem mount, out front mounts will be called the XL 1605 and 1605C  with pricing ranging from $25 for the Gravity cap to $64.99 for the combo mount 1605C.

With the move to 1x you’d think they’d provide the option to have the lighting switch on the left.

Love my NiteRider, going to have to get one of the new USB ported batteries so I can keep my iPhone charged on longer/endurance rides.

Finally, a 35mm mount. I know that’s a first world problem, but it’s about time.

any idea if they’ll do one for the lumina series, given that it’s their hands-down biggest seller?
