Just after introducing the Svelt XC tire at Sea Otter, we caught Onza with another new tread at the Riva del Garda Mountain Bike Festival.

The upcoming Onza Canis 27.5 x 2.85 is their first entry into the plus-sized tire market, but it’s coming in at a competitive weight for the category. At 840g claimed, that’s at least 60g lighter than most other plus tires we’ve seen, which is double good considering it’s using their Freeride casing with reinforced sidewalls. The rest of the construction notes are a single ply carcass with the higher end (and lighter) 120tpi construction. It gets their dual racing compound of 65a rubber in the center and softer 55a on the side knobs.

The tread pattern is a direct copy of their standard sized Canis tires, making it a good all ’rounder.

It’ll hit retail in about 1.5 to 2 months and come in standard and skinwall options. Price will be about €110 / $120, but final price will depend on the market and distributor.

There’s also a new 27.5 x 2.25 size offered in skinwall, too.

840g is way too light for that much rubber.

Would be great if they would make that tire in a 29×2.4

an 840g casing that is 120tpi and supposedly ‘Free-ride’. I’m disappointed they also didn’t advertise the ‘wish dust’ and ‘pixie dreams’ that are woven in to the casing to make it supple yet stable in aggressive cornering…

Maybe they’re pulling a Maxxis & this 2.8 will actually measure around 2.5.” I could see 840g then.
