Aaron Baker was a motocross athlete who was paralyzed in training in 1999. When he crashed, Baker broke cervical vertebras 4, 5 and 6, rendering him quadriplegic. Despite virtually zero chance of regaining any function below the point of injury, Aaron focused his mind and energy on regaining function and now walks intermittently with cane assistance.

Now, he owns and operates an adaptive gym, C.O.R.E., and has built this bad-ass fat trike mountain bike. The official name is Stinger, but Aaron nicknamed it the Honey Badger thanks to the way he rides it – getting nasty over the trail and kicking up on one or two of the three wheels.

Built by Reactive Adaptations, you can check out the details below…

As a Red Bull Wings For Life Ambassador, Aaron is helping raise money and awareness for spinal cord injury research and cure. The Wings For Life World Run will be held on May 8th in Santa Clarita, CA, as well as in 33 other locations around the world at exactly the same time.

Check out a teaser of Aaron’s documentary of his recovery process, which was funded last summer through Kickstarter.

As long as I can still straddle and ride a regular bicycle I wouldn’t want this, but damn, that’s cool! Life hands you lemons, you make lemonade, right?

That is badass indeed! Awesome what happens when necessity collides with know how!
I rode alongside a similar adaptive rider months ago who a hand crank trike but used a Bosch battery bike drive on it to help on the climbs. That would a no brainer on these devices for such riders.Very inspirational are these people trying to do what we take for granted and do every day.

The motor would have really helped the dude in the hand-cycle trike we ran into last summer. He was coming up the trail as we were coming down, and he was stuck in a weird section that kept him from going forward or back. His bike was designed with a push bar on the back, so it was easy to help him get going again, but an e-bike motor would have been a nice backup for him in those situations.

Two different trikes, one has a jackshaft, the other has suspension.

Been years since I saw a chainstay wrapped with an old tire tube.
