Oakley Team USA 2016 Olympic Collection, title shot

Oakley is a brand that really gets in the spirit of major athletic events. Bikerumor has previously checked out their special edition Tour De France sunglass collection, and they’ve just announced a new Team USA collection adorned in red, white and blue accents to honor American athletes heading to this year’s summer games. The collection was recently released to celebrate the 100 day countdown to the 2016 Olympic Games, which are scheduled to begin on August 5th in Rio, Brazil.

USA has selected 100 athletes for their Olympic team so far, including cyclists Sarah Hammer (women’s omnium and team pursuit), plus fellow team pursuit members Kelly Catlin, Chloe Dygert, Jennifer Valente, and Ruth Winder. Representing the men, Matt Baranoski will compete in keirin, and Bobby Lea in the men’s omnium.

As the official eyewear supplier to Team USA, Oakley has six Olympic-edition sunglasses in the new collection including both performance and casual wear models…

Jawbreaker Team USA

With their cycling-optimized upper peripheral field of view, the Jawbreaker was an obvious choice for the Olympic Collection. In addition to Oakley’s high clarity HDO Optics, the Jawbreaker features Switchlock interchangeable lenses, surge ports to promote airflow, adjustable length arms and the brand’s Unobtanium earsocks and nosepads which stay grippy while you sweat.

The Team USA model comes in a standard fit, and is equipped with the Prizm Road lens. The Jawbreakers come with a Microbag included and sell for $240 USD.

Radar EV Path Team USA

Like the Jawbreakers, Oakley has extended the upper field of view in the Radar EV Path sunglasses. However, the lenses contoured shape makes them fit smaller on the bottom edge, keeping them up off your cheeks. The lightweight and durable O-Matter frames include vents for maximum airflow, Unobtanium earsocks and nosepads, and interchangeable lenses.
The team USA model features dark blue frames with Positive Red Iridium lenses. A Sport Soft Vault case, Team USA edition Microbag, and extra nosepad are all included for the price of $210.

RPM Squared Team USA

The RPM Squared model is far more subtle color-wise, with their blue Unobtanium earsocks and a small red and white stripe above the left lens. The semi-rimless O-Matter frames come in silver, and are optimized for a women’s fit. The included lens color is Black Iridium, and customers can choose between Squared or Edge shaped lenses to achieve a personalized look and feel. The RPM Squared glasses come with a Team USA Microbag and a Soft Vault case for $190.

Flak 2.0 XL Team USA

The Flak 2.0 XL is another more subtle looking option, which share the same blue Unobtanium earsocks as the RPM Squared model. A small Team USA logo is also etched into the bottom of the left lens. The O-Matter frames come in Matte Dark Grey and the lenses are Black Iridium.

The Flak XL’s lenses are designed to provide maximum coverage for excellent protection against sun and wind. This model includes a Soft Vault Case, Team USA Microbag and an extra set of nosepads. They sell for $190.

Frogskins Team USA

The classic Frogskins have such a cult following Oakley couldn’t exclude them from a special edition lineup like this, despite their ‘casual wear’ status. The Team USA editions are a flashy pair, with their blue arms, patterned white frames and American flag Oakley logos.

The frames provide a Three-Point fit which aligns the lenses for the best optical clarity possible, and the Plutonite lens material filters 100% of UVA, UVB, UVC and harmful blue light up to 400nm. The Frogskins sell for $150 and include a Microbag.

Turbine Team USA

Finally, the Matte Dark Grey Turbines aren’t exactly shouting red, white and blue, but do feature Team USA logos on the lenses, USA colored Oakley badges and some printed detailing on the arms. The Turbines come with Black Iridium lenses, which are made from UV blocking Plutonite. The frames are constructed with light and tough O-Matter, with Unobtanium earsocks and nosepads to keep them in place. A Team USA Microbag is included with the Turbines, which sell for $190.

The 2016 Team USA Collection is available now online or at select Oakley dealers.

Oakleys are the most overpriced consumer product in the world. That said, I own 2 pairs.

I’ve always owned Oakley, justifying the price premium to the fact they were made in the USA. Now with most models only assembled in the USA, it’s pretty difficult to justify the most overpriced product(s) in the world
