German bag maker EVOC says that the search for trails is a big part of what they do. That seems to make sense as they develop bike hauling bags and gear hauling backpacks; what better way to test them out than to set off on an adventure? One of their favorite trips took them to Bolivia more than a decade ago and the mountains that sits high above the already high La Paz. They’ve been so taken aback by the amazing trail they lucked into being shown by a local guide that they’ve been back more than once and now created what will be a new Supertrail series. With the FR Supertrail Bolivia protector backpack, they pay homage to that first ride. Check out the new pack, a video of the ride, and even some details on the trail after the jump…

We start off at 3803 metres above sea level. It’s cold. The air is thin, we’re almost breathless, and the landscape is just stunning. What follows makes us happy: 15.5 kilometers, with an altitude gain of 260 meters, and 1171 meters of downhill riding on a truly amazing single trail.

So that is what gets EVOC to dedicate a pack – the limited edition FR Supertrail Bolivia. The 20l Protector series backpack gets finished in an olive green pattern with a highlight of the trail’s track. Throughout the pack printed details highlight memorable elements of the trail from getting hit by a cactus to catching a bike shuttle on the back of a local farmer’s lamas.

The pack itself carries some solid tech too. It uses a TÜV-GS-certified Liteshield back protector to keep you safe whether you end up tumbling out of the Andes or simply washing out at your home bike park. The Liteshield protector is unique in remaining lightweight and flexible, and still delivering max impact absorption from +30°C down to -20°C, which may come in handy descending off of glaciers.

The pack’s main body opens from either the top or the side for ease of access to everything inside. It also includes a large fold-open tool compartment for a trailside workshop, and includes an array of pockets and pouches for keeping everything organized from spare tubes to mini-tools. A separate pocket gives access to a 3l hydration system sleeve and the back protector.

It also gets several attachment point for things like knee and elbow protectors, as well as either half-shell or full-face helmets.

I have an EVOC FR Enduro pack (pretty much the same as the one here) and it is among the best designed and built packs I’ve ever owned or seen.
