A little more than a year ago Kinetic created add-on power measurement for their fluid trainers with their Bluetooth-powered inRide pod that then communicated with an iOS or Android app to monitor your speed, cadence, and power. We took a look at the setup and its initial integration with the Sufferfest back last fall, but now Kinetic has completely revamped their free app with the new Fit to provide deeper training tools, better integration, and all of the features that weren’t ready in the previous inRide version. Jump across the break with us for a closer look and to see why they’ve teamed up with the Tour of Sufferlandria to raise money for the Davis Phinney Foundation starting this weekend…

Indoor riding season is still peaking for our Northern Hemisphere readers, so the new Kinetic Fit may be another good way to get the most out of winter training, and paired with the Tour of Sufferlandria is a chance to ride inside for a good cause. Kinetic joined on this year to sponsor the Sufferfest’s 9-day “Greatest Grand Tour of a Mythical Nation” to raise fund for the Davis Phinney Foundation (starting Feb 6.) “Premium” Kinetic Fit subscribers (for now it looks like that is free) who donate $10 for the Tour get free streaming access to each of the nine video training stages starting Saturday.

The Fit app itself is now available for iOS and in beta form for Android, and is free for the time being. Presumably it will go to a monthly subscription basis in the future as we saw back in October. Like its predecessor inRide, Fit communicates by Bluetooth Smart to pull in power output, distance, speed, and cadence from an inRide-equipped trainer, plus heartrate from a separate HRM. Fit now delivers live monitoring of over 50 ride metrics which can be customized in the app.

The app delivers more training capability over 100 workouts that include power and cadence targets that you can ride to, including 21 Sufferfest workouts. In addition to real-time metrics and performance graphs, the app can pair with a second screen and stream video to keep you entertained. While something in between the fully interactive Zwift VR environment, Fit does a good job of pairing pre-recorded training videos with proper performance-based workouts. Kinetic also continues to collaborate with Zwift to make sure their trainer hardware plays nicely with the online software so users get the best functionality.

The new app is available now, with regular updates planned to continue to add more workouts, power-training plans, and more.
