Nox Composites Kitsuma 42mm carbon fiber mountain bike rim

Built specifically for big volume mountain bike tires in widths of 2.4″ or more, all the way up to plus sized 3.0 treads and more, the new Nox Composites’ Kitsuma measures at a massive 42mm wide on the outside. Inside is 36mm, and you get all thirty six of those millimeters because the sidewalls have no hook.

It’s for 27.5″ tires only, but will come in two layups. The trail/enduro version hits the scales at 455g-460g, and a DH version adds about 50g thanks to walls that gain an extra 1mm of thickness on the inside to make 20% stronger. Like their other rims, the design is asymmetric, which they say improves spoke tension equality by 15% and about 8% lateral stiffness.

The rims are sold on their own with 32 hole drillings and stealth decals. Other drillings and decal colors are available, and they’re also available through their custom wheel building program with a variety of hubs. The other measurement you need: 30mm deep. They feature Nox’s Anti-Burp Bump and toughened layup on the sidewall and around the bead area to protect the rim against rock strikes.

Very nice rims. I have what appears to be a slightly narrower version (Nextie Wildcats 38mm Outer x32mm Inner. Spoke tension is very equal with CK hubs. Both wheels use same length spokes and wheel builds are super easy to true and tension up. Super stiff. Couldn’t be happier. Especially since the Nextie’s are less than 1/2 the price.

It looks like a nice rim. Too bad they, sadly, ignored a whole market segment for the low hanging fruit of 27.5! 29+ folks….. get to it!

Nextie bike makes a hookless bead rim that has inside width of 42mm only weighs 50grams more and cost half as much
