Learning Curve 2

We brought you Gee and Dan Atherton’s preview to the Redbull Hardline course that was obviously a brutal challenge for even the best of the best of the best considering all of Gee’s gut wrenching gasps on many of the landings. In fact, his equally talented brother Dan, the course’s creator, is out of the event due to crashing on one of the bigger jumps during a practice run resulting in a fractured scapula.

If you were able to make it through that first video unscathed, crawl past the break to see how all of the non-Athertons faired during practice on the spirit crushing course. You may actually want to wear your gear for this one….

That’s one way to ruin the sport…. Doesn’t matter if they are professionals or not, if a sponsor has all his/her riders in hospital they wont be too keen on sponsoring again. It’s not Motocross, it’s DH MTN biking. Reduce the danger and increase the participation and course completion and let the clock decide the winner, pretty simple really.

Got to wonder if these riders are enjoying some of this. Looks f*%king terrifying.

The stump rows scare me the most.

Fork in the top picture looks like it has about 150mm of rake now.

Doesn’t sound like several of you ride down hill or follow the sport. Plenty of casing and crashing in the world cup.

Redbull comps are all about pushing limits and showcasing amazing skills, Its meant to be for the elite.

OverIt – the course was designed by a rider, Dan Atherton.
All the DH pro’s made their career being crazier than most anyone, and have the skill to back that up. They already all participate. Professional DH shouldn’t be a course most people can ride and it should be technically challenging for the pro’s doing it, not just a timed run around some gravel turns.

I get more tense around the crazy rock gardens some of the DH courses have rather than a big jump.

@jbikes, you couldn’t be more spot on. Jumps, fine, Rock Gardens or off camber root sections… at a very high velocity scare the beeejeeeezus out of me. These guys make that stuff look easy. I’ve been to a few DH World Cup races and I get the feeling they might be going 3X faster than what I could do on my very best day.
