Let your Thumbs do the Riding with Pro Cycling Video Games for Xbox One or PS4/PS3

Coach says you need a rest day but still can’t get enough of road racing? Thanks to the latest crop of cycling inspired video games from Focus Home Interactive you can make your way through the peloton without ever leaving the couch. While companies like Zwift are introducing video game inspired training software, the games from Focus are more traditional in that your thumbs replace your legs to race along some of the most famous roads in cycling.

Offered in two different versions, the Le Tour De France 2015 will be available for PS4, PS3, and Xbox one while Pro Cycling Manager will be PC only. Le Tour De France 2015 is exactly what you would expect from a title like that with a virtual tour through the 21 official stages of the tour along with the Criterium International and Criterium du Dauphine. We’re not exactly sure how pro cycling will translate to a video game but we’re at least curious enough to want to find out…

Rather than focusing on individual riding to get through the Tour, Pro Cycling manager instead focuses on the entire team. Pick one of 90 teams and coach them through the entire season of over 200 competitions with 550 stages including the 2015 Tour de France.

Both games will be officially released on June 18th with pre-order pricing starting at $35.99 for the PC based Pro Cycling Manager 2015.

In this day and age, a cycling game could essentially be an extension of your trainer, and allow real time “handicapped” racing with the pros.
Ex:
– Baseline your performance. The game calculates your performance against a select style of professional riders (sprinter, domestique, climber, GC).
– You select what you want to be (sprinter, climber…)
– Log in prior to start of something like a Tour stage, or mid race. Pro have trackers on them that allow for real time tracking of speed/position.
– See if you can beat the pros for however long you want, your handicap will essentially be a power boost to bring your “mortal” power levels (tested in the baseline) up to the pros.
But be careful, the “game” doesn’t really know what the pros are doing that day, so you may be in for a hurting on breakaways, or sit back for an “easy” spin until the sprint.

Wow, so glad to see the full potential of the PS4 and XB1 being used to make one of the most unnatural looking and unrealistic games I have ever seen. I get that this isn’t meant to be some groundbreaking feat of gaming technology but when something like this is presented it manages to cheapen both gaming, and cycling at the same time. Doing this to one or the other, not so incredible, but both, now that is kind of amazing.

Oh my….never in my life would i fork out $70 for a game like this. I would try it if it was a free download, but pay? No thank you. I get what they are trying to do by bringing a game out like this, but when it comes to video games, this isn’t what people are looking for. It isn’t interesting in the least….sorry.

I’m still waiting for a downhill game. If they can make F1 games as good as they do, a mtb game should be no problem. Can you imagine random mechanicals in a video game, pinch flats or a rear dR getting sheered off? That would be a controller throwing experience.

Clearly Gwin showed us that losing a chain isn’t a problem.

With the cost of an Xbone and HDTV factored into your compatible trainer, you’re spending MORE to cycle in your living room than you would to just go ride outside.

I played an old version of this and it was marginally entertaining. The best part was that they hadn’t gotten licensing to use the names of all of the current pros, so you had these ‘famous’ riders making their appearance:

Jan Ulrich
Ivan Bosso
Levi Loipheimer
Floyd Londis

That’s pure gold!
