If you’re reading this site it’s probably safe to assume you are into bikes. As the photo above illustrates, bicycles have come a long way in a fairly short period of time. It’s kind of crazy to think where bicycles will be in another 50 years. To be part of that continuing development a major brand in the bicycle industry is conducting a confidential project and has invited our readers to be a part of a small group of cycling enthusiasts whose opinions may help shape the future of bicycle technology.

Do away with the Lugano Charter and let bike companies do what they want instead of worrying about whether or not their bikes are UCI legal. Look at the bikes from the 90’s vs now. Just about every bike looks the same today.

@Trav well, recumbents kinda come in those flavors too, but you’re right that a nice “other” box would have been good–for bents, cruisers, choppers, penny farthings, etc

Also, what about this survey was about innovation, other than the marketing terms (which were hilarious, don’t get me wrong. It’s like the car guys joking about all Italian cars having “soul” and “passion”–all bikes next year will be Confident!). It should be called what it is, a marketing survey…

I got passed by an e bike the other day.

Also, who is the Survey run by? It got mad at me when I said I was not looking into buying a bike with SRAM, and asked me again if I would buy SRAM.

If it weren’t for disc brakes in the Sram components picture, I probably would have considered the bike.

Just took the survey. That’s a marketing survey, not too heavy on the innovation side of things.

The rate of bicycle innovation has been squelched by big brands that “need” to control the rate of consumer-ready “innovations.” It’s really sad, if you think about it. Computers have come a long way… I remember seeing a mountain bike here on B.R., maybe three years ago, and it was the breath of fresh air that I’d been waiting for; a brilliant inboard drivetrain and gear-box. The only thing that has advanced is manufacturing; between the advances in machinery, engineering, and cam, all we get are cool widgets. Now, that’s cool, but it’s nothing compared to other things that have advanced a extreme rates. I mean, we’re smashing atoms together, and lubing our chains.

I think sram wants to know if they should rebrand everything they make Sram. I wonder if there is a way to fill out the survey so they think we want them to rebrand brakes and cranks to rockshox.
