This week, Zach’s been riding his way through the complete range of padded shorts from Club Ride and will have a review of those and complete future product preview coming soon. But, this little tidbit basically clears my Sea Otter coverage off the to-do list and shows some concept colors for the collection that may or may not make it to production.

Thus far, the collection has been mostly black on black with more black when it comes to their padded underwear and bike shorts. All are designed to be worn under something else, not as traditional bike shorts. But, in case you occasionally show a little waistband or just wanna feel special on the inside, they’re working on more options in red, plus these striped  and colored options. The women’s bikini brief would be a new cut, too, but everything you see above is concept only at the moment. Like it? Let ’em know in the comments.

Now, for stuff you can actually buy today…

The retail packaging has ratings based on ride duration, making it easier for customers to figure out which shorts make sense for them. There’s better signage available to dealers than what’s shown here, too.

The men’s line is entertainingly branded with names like Johnson, Woodchuck and Gunslinger…and with appropriate hours-in-the-saddle ratings, too.

The 1 Hour is for short commutes and very thin, making it easy to wear under normal work clothes throughout the day if a changing station isn’t available or your on and off the bike frequently. Padding density, shape and thickness goes up from there.

We saw the Billy Bob sleeveless version of their cowboy themed cycling jerseys at Interbike, but missed some critical details that really complete the package:

Yep, those are unfinished seams on the bottom of the pocket flap and rear placket, which should fray nicely to complete the look over time.

The women’s mountain bike line is, thankfully, a little more upscale with the Laurel top and Ventura shorts. The top’s upper flaps fold over each other to cover up completely in a very fashionable finish. The Racing Red color matches the detail on the Ventura shorts, and both get zippered media pockets.

The shorts keep a clean look with interior waist adjustments that button the hidden elasticized strap without bunching up the outside.

Just bought the Woodchuck 3hr+ short, and used it on a 200 mile fatbike ride this past weekend. Most comfortable padded shorts I’ve ever used. Comparing it to my other pads, the Club Ride’s foam is much higher density – I guess that gives it the extra support ?

I was riding to work the other day in a pair of thin wool boxers under a pair of baggie shorts and wondered I’d never seen a liner short made from similar fabric. I will buy those blue striped liner shorts as soon as I can.
