We got a sneak peek at the new Uranium series when Oakley launched their new Jawbreaker cycling glasses, but now the reaction has spread. Currently available in 7 different models with a few more to come, the newest frame color is unmistakably Oakley. Considered a special edition, the Uranium Collection includes mostly sport sunglasses with shades for baseball, golf, and of course cycling. A glowing green Sliver is thrown in for good measure in case you don’t want to leave the brightness on the road.

On the road side, Oakley is limiting the radioactivity to just the Radar EV and new Jawbreaker for now…

Equipped with the new Prizm Road lens, all of the lenses for the Uranium series are tuned for the best vision for the sport in question. In this case, the Prizm Road lenses are meant to highlight the road surface so you can pick out any hazards as quickly as possible. The Radar EV Path has a taller lens to allow for better vision when looking up through the glasses similar to the Jawbreakers, just not as extreme. Selling for $190, the Uranium Radar Ev Paths will be available soon.

On the Jawbreakers, the glasses developed with Mark Cavendish are treated with a neon green upper frame and black lower. Fitted with the same Prizm Road lens, the Uranium Jawbreakers are currently shown in Asia Fit only, but will eventually be offered in standard fit as well. Both models will sell for $220.

I don’t really like the look of the Jawbreakers in photos, but they fit me so well and don’t look quite as crazy once being worn. Pretty sure they’ll be my next pair.

True. Not a huge fan of the looks but the fit is great and the lens is absolutely incredible.

I love the Radar, but I love 2x my Rudy Project because the nose piece is adjustable among other things.

Oakley peaked with the New M Frame. Now they’re just getting silly. I’d hate to be the designer guy hunched over his CAD screen wincing every time his boss walked past with a “got a new design yet?” inquisitive stare.

Speaking of “New Designs” about 4 years ago I bought a pair of Oakley Jury RX sunglasses.
They were touted as nearly indestructible with aluminum frames. I dropped them one day and the plastic frame hinge broke. I called Oakley and my glasses were no longer in production and parts were no longer available. So much for “long lasting/nearly indestructible” sunglasses.

Keep this in mind when buying stuff. All companies are plagued by the “new and improved” bug.
I know sunglasses are generally not considered as durable goods, but if your company is going to advertise product as “long lasting”, you would think and hope that they would at least stock needed replacement parts for a while.

Lesson learned.

I can’t do blades, just like I could never do a minivan. Maybe it’s a generational thing. Blade type glasses were only ever worn by overzealous police/security or non-atheletic athletes trying to look the part. Maybe they have real benefits; I’ll never know.

BikeHoarder – Yup, I’ve had issues with Oakleys too, though I do really like a lot of their shades. I had some polarized cycling lenses become delaminated and it affected my sight. I had to argue with Oakley for months to get them replaced. I also told them how I had a few OLDER pairs of Oakleys that were fine, so this batch obviously had issues. After numerous calls and emails, they finally replaced the lenses.

On that note, Rudy Project replaces lenses, no questions asked, for $20. One huge reason to opt for RPs over Oakleys.

And yes, Oakley now has too many options for cyclists. I want a new pair but can’t decide between the Radars (already have a pair and love them), Radar Lock, M2 Frame, or the Jawbreakers.
