2015 Cervelo P2 triathlon, time trial bike in black and white
Where some competitive racers would happily ride a pink and purple paisley frame if it promised to make them faster, entry level consumers don’t make decisions on the same criteria. Their choice in the bike shop may be partly influenced by something that seems trivial to a die-hard racer. Like a bike’s contours, graphics or colors, for example

Cervelo has just announced their entry level R2 road and P2 triathlon/time trial bikes are now available with two color schemes for each – The R2 now comes in a grey/orange option and the P2 in a glossy black and white. Now entry level buyers can get a bike that offers performance well beyond its price tag (as both of these bikes seek to do) while having it appeal to them for reasons beyond saving seconds.

Cervelo’s P2 Triathlon and Time Trial bike is the company’s entry level, price competitive model from the P series lineup. The P series bikes provide a wide range of fit options and plenty of mounts for onboard hydration and nutrition. It’s also looking far forward, accommodating mechanical, hydraulic, or electronic components thanks to Cervelo’s ‘future-proof’ cable routing so the bike can be easily upgraded as you progress, instead of being rendered obsolete by the next big innovation.

The initial color scheme available was a white frame with blue graphics, but there’s now a second option for a black frame with white logos and details as seen above. The P2 retails for $3,000 USD with a Shimano 105/FSA build.

Cervelo’s R2 is their entry level road bike, situated at the bottom end of the R series. The R2 rides on the same sub-1000g frame as the higher-end R3, and features plenty of trickle-down technology from the top R series models. The R2 is sensibly outfitted for novice riders with an emphasis on practicality and durability, rather than consumable ultra-performance parts. It also has the same ‘future-proof’ cable management system as the P2 for customers who wish to upgrade to hydraulic or electronic components.

The R2 was first offered in a white frame with black lettering and red accents, but option number two is this stately grey frame with white logos and orange accents on the fork blades. The complete R2 sells for $2,650 with Shimano 105 and FSA components.

In racing news, Cervelo is pushing their presence on the race circuit in a big way for 2015. As of today (May 3) the company has just wrapped up its first event with three pro teams racing at the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire. In addition to their existing MTN-Qhuebeka team, Cervelo was selected as the bike of choice for the newly developed ONE Pro Cycling team. They’ve also joined forces with British Cycling to sponsor the Great Britain Cycling Team and develop cutting edge track bikes for the Olympic and Paralympic games, so track riders should keep one eye on Cervelo to see what arises from this partnership.
