Ride Groomed

If you’ve ridden groomed singletrack on a fat bike, then you already know. It’s awesome. Sure, a fat bike is fun on just about any surface, but there is nothing quite like flowing through a snow covered forest on a narrow ribbon of packed and groomed snow. If you haven’t tried it, you’re probably wondering why fat bikes would need groomed trails in the first place. There are many parts of the world that get enough snow that even fat bikes can’t get through without a little help. By grooming the trail similar to trail preparation for skis, fat bikes still float on top of the snow but are able to go faster – which is always more fun.

Due to their love of riding groomed singletrack and their desire to share it with others, 45NRTH just launched Groomedsingletrack.com. Meant to be a source of information that winter cyclists can use to educate themselves about the ins and outs of grooming, the site will also serve as a tool to locate the nearest groomed trail. The site will also feature riding events with future plans to spotlight various trail builders who keep the fat bike trails in pristine condition. As a work in progress, 45NRTH will continue to add to the site to make it the online resource for winter trail building.

Even though the packed snow trails may disappear in the Summer, they still take money and time to build. See how 45NRTH plans to support the creation of winter trail networks next…

ride groomed clothing 45nrthTo go along with the #ridegroomed campaign on social media, 45NRTH has also worked up a Ride Groomed tee and hat. Expected in the immediate future, the goods will be sent out to 45NRTH dealers where all proceeds from the sale of both will go back to winter trail building and maintenance. The shift and hat will be joined by additional fund raising materials in the future.

Great idea, how would a club/person go about getting the $’s from 45nrth? Would this be annual or one time grants? Does the trail system need to be established to get the dollars or could they be used to establish it?

I own a skandic/groomer (just put back into action). I want to avoid a pay-to-play trail scenario as it eliminates our states outstanding land owner liability protection. So the system would be volunteer/donation $ based.

thx,

Two new 45NRTH tires shown in the video on the website: FlowBeist on the front and DunderBeist on the rear. I’m sure we will hear more this coming week. But interesting they spilled the beans like this. They showed the names quite prominently. Based on the fact that this video is about riding groomed snow and the names, I’ll go out on a limb and say that’s what these tires are meant for.

What? No backflips in this video?

Meh.

I get what 45Nrth are trying to do but all I can see is a giant, stinky motor polluting an otherwise serene place.

I hope we never see this in our area, I prefer the decidedly low-tech grooming technique of snowshoeing/tramping in trail without the use of motors.

Meh. Waiting for the Loamy Fire Road Full Rigid Biking website.

Ironically, groomed trails often don’t require fat tires, and at some point begin to resemble summer hard pack with enough use, go figure.
