Astir-Titanium-Bikes-2015-1

If the name Astir Frames doesn’t ring a bell, that is because they’re a relatively new frame building company. Founded by James Astir in 2012, the company specializes in custom built titanium frames.

James formerly worked as an engineer in the Automotive and Aircraft industries, and nowadays applies his work experience to his life long passion, bicycles. Every Astir bicycle and frame is custom made for its owner based on one of six types of bikes for everything from fast riding to touring to a new singlespeed model…

The Astir model range features the Classic, Sportive, Brevet, Titan, Touring and their newest model, the Meraki Single Speed. Every Astir bicycle or frame is designed and built by James in Adelaide, South Australia (home to the recent Tour Down Under).

Each of Astir’s models are a guide and can be customized to suit the owner’s requirements and riding style.

His material of choice is Titanium 3AL/2.5V, either in straight gauge or double butted tubes. The 3AL/2.5V alloy has a proven track record in the cycling industry, and is lightweight, strong and durable.  Each tube is selected with an emphasis on providing a comfortable, yet confident ride.

Custom ti bicycles don’t have to cost an arm an a leg. Frames are $3,000 AU (approximately $2,350 U.S. at the time of writing), with costs kept low courtesy of standard, industry available fittings for the head tubes, bottom bracket shells, dropouts, etc.
