Carmichael Training Systems Partners with Strava to create Training Programs for Premium Members

Strava CTS training program

If you’ve been out riding this year and are a Strava user, you’ve probably noticed the new Annual Achievements. Now, in addition to your personal yearly bests, riders have a chance to pick up the annual KOM for a segment along side the overall KOM for all time. If KOMs, annual or otherwise, are on your to do list for the year you’re also probably the type of rider that pays attention to their training.

Thanks to a recent partnership with Carmichael Training Systems (CTS, also Trainright.com), Strava users have a new arrow in their quiver when it comes to training programs. Available to all Strava Premium members, multiple training programs are available through the Strava program to help you complete that 60+ minute climbs, to 20 second town-line sprints.

Working directly with CTS, Strava has developed 10 customizable training plans with each plan lasting four weeks. To enroll in a program simply log onto Strava.com and select the training plan you wish to use under the training tab. From there, prescribed workouts will be delivered straight to your inbox on the day before your training plan is scheduled to start.

Features:

  • Customize your training plan based on the number of hours you’d like to train per week.
  • All plans start on a Monday and end 4 weeks (28 days) later.
  • Each plan follows a 5-workout-per-week format, with workouts on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, longer rides on Saturday and Sunday, and rest days on Monday and Friday.
  • Workouts will be delivered directly to your inbox the afternoon prior to the workout.

Strava should partner with Velopro. Now that would be something.

Strava + power meter + compact cranks has made me fitter at age 37 than when I was racing as a super hungry 24 year old in Belgium full time riding 30000km in a year.

I signed up for this training plan but now im regretting it after finding out CTS was part of Team Armstrong. I worried in week 5 of the training plan ill get an email saying to beat you PB up the hill try EPO. Click here to order yours.

I think Trainerroad should counter with algorithms that would measure one’s training load and recommend how much to do based on that. Maybe pair up with Trainingpeaks? This way you really have a “virtual coach” telling you what to do.

I’m not sure about this programs by Strava (10 only?) with no “virtual number” to follow. Seems targeted to those who only care for KOMs.

I’ve seen week 1 of the sprint plan and it’s a little low volume and non specific. Much prefer using a training peaks plans or designing own plan with their book! But this is good for beginners, some structure.

It’s a free option added on to your premium strava account. If you want a coach that is going to work with every aspect of your cycling, pay for one. This feature is only designed to target the power/time you picked. You have to be able to loosely interpret and amend their plan to work with your overall goals.
It’s also a marketing tool for cts. If you like the super basic “free” version, pay for a coach at cts. That’s when you have a coach instead of a guide.

I thought Carmichael training was a fancy way of explaining huge improvements in race results due to drug use away? Kinda like powermeters, oval chainrings, clipless pedals and a new found philosophy on life.
