Spin Power has just created a new silicone based chain lube that’s impervious to water.

“First of all, silicone a very good lubricant, and it’s got really great water repellency properties,” said company founder and chemist John Prudente. “And because it’s inert, it won’t attack any plastic or rubber parts. So, you could even use it to lube shifters or other delicate parts.”

It’s infused with Teflon, too, which is also a great lubricant and isn’t soluble. That means it’ll separate and won’t stay in solution, so you’ll need to shake the bottle. But on the chain, the particle size is so small it can get into the chain and provide a physical barrier between metal parts. It’s available in 1, 4 and 8 ounce bottles.

There’s also a few new cleaning products…

Shown at top, the Disc Brake Cleaner gets updated spray bottle packaging and helps get any grease, grime, lube or brake fluid completely off your rotor so it’ll stop you and not contaminate the brake pads.

Their all-natural, environmentally friendly Citrus Degreaser is now more concentrated, so it’s more powerful on its own against chains and cassettes and can be diluted for more general component and frame cleaning. Available in 4, 8 and 16 oz sizes.

I’m skeptical of wonder chemicals – sometimes a job is just too messy – but I’ll take a gamble on a can of this stuff. Some of the silicone junk I donk around with in my basement is really impressive in the way it performs. It can take chemicals, heat, pressure… it takes a beating, very few things want to stick to it.
