Cold winter weather is here, and to continue riding through the chill, you need the proper clothing. The definition of winter can be very different between Minneapolis and Miami, so we have compiled a list of new cold weather gear to choose from. Whether you need protection from the chill or the wet, there is clothing out there to help you continue cycling through the darker months.

Click into the post to see wool jerseys from Rocky Mountain, water repellent jackets from Rapha and Huez, and a new line of look-good clothing from Twentyeightco…

Rapha-Team-Jacket

Rapha

Rapha spent 14 months developing and testing the new Classic Softshell Jacket, and at the end travelled to Iceland with pro rider Jimmy McCallum. Already having worked through six different fabrics and many hours of ride testing, they came through with a jacket that is the top performer in foul weather conditions.

Rapha says the Pro Team Softshell Jacket is the race-bred evolution of the Rapha Classic Softshell Jacket. The details and cut are specific to racing, and the materials give breathability in wet weather, so they say it is the most advanced jacket they have ever offered. The fabric is made of two thin layers, separated by a membrane, to create a jacket that is breathable, water resistant and insulating. The seams are taped to insure water resistance throughout the garment. Finally, the inner layer is a soft 100% polyester to make sure it is comfortable against the skin.

Available in grey and red, and in sizes XS-XXL, the slim fit jacket sells for $295.

Twentyeightco

Twentyeightco is a brand made in London by cyclist Daniel Prempeh. He saw problems with regular clothing while on the bike, so he decided to create a full line of clothing designed specifically for cyclists. Designed to look just as good off the bike, they make casual garments such as bamboo fabric t-shirts, microfiber coats and stretch denim jeans. Focused primarily on style, they want to make sure that cyclists look good.

Huez_Starman_Storm_Jacket_BlueBlack_Front

Huez

Made from Japanese and Swiss fabrics, the Starman Storm Jacket  is breathable and has 4-way stretch. Heralding from the United Kingdon, Huez is a newer brand delivering style and performance together. The jacket is just one of their offerings, and it features a dual function zipper guard, fully taped seams, and hidden vents. Checking all the requisite boxes for a cool or wet weather jacket, it also adds reflective tabs at the rear, elastic cuffs with velcro adjusters and an internal mesh pocket that can store the entire jacket when not in use. Available in Small through XXL, the Starman jacket sells for £235.

“Bamboo fabric” is just a fancy way of saying rayon.

Winter road riding clothing planning in New England (deleted). Many times I have to make a gear change on long rides over 4 hours. Usually I strategically park my car with gear mid ride. I feel like a new person changing into a new ibex base layer and jersey under the jacket after 50 miles or so. I have all the best crap from assos, castelli, capo, gore… still, it’s just impossible to avoid getting soaked doing hard workouts in gear like this. The only rides that stay dry feel either too cold or are endurance pace. Rapha is promising a lot in that jacket.
