Chris King Lefty LD and SuperMax Hubs Now Shipping

After getting up close and personal with the new Chris King Lefty hubs at Eurobike, the single sided gems are now on their way to bike shops world wide. Available in either the LD or the SuperMax version, the hubs combine to cover the spread of all Cannondale Lefty forks. Built with typical Chris King precision in Portland, Oregon, the hubs are completely rebuildable and come in all standard CK colors including the current Sour Apple Limited edition.

Divided into two separate hubs, the CK ISO Lefty SuperMax is a wider hub meant only for that specific fork. The CK ISO Lefty LD hub on the other hand is not only compatible with all the other Lefty forks, but is convertible to standard 15 and 20mm thru axles as well. Both Lefty hubs come standard with CK’s own stainless steel bearings with ceramic bearings available as an upgrade.

Weight is listed at 215g for the stainless steel/ 211g ceramic SuperMax hub (which Tyler measured 219g at Eurbike), and 200g for the stainless/196g ceramic LD hub. Each hub carries the standard CK 5 year warranty and are available now from your local shop in hub only, or Chris King’s prebuilt wheelsets.

It’s really too bad the CK jumped on the Maverick bandwagon back in the day, only to have that ‘standard’ fall to the wayside shortly after. I feel like they have been loathe to make anything new since then.

I suppose somewhere around 2027 we’ll see a CK fat bike hub

A lefty fork is the best XC fork I have ever ridden…not sure what “blah” is referring to with his comment.

Agreed. I think most of the Lefty nay-sayers are people who’ve never ridden them. They’re great ‘forks’ (not actually a fork but whatever – it replaces a fork)…Cannondale does a great job of pushing the envelope.

Where Cannondale messed up with the Lefty is the dropout. You have to take the brake caliper off in order to take the wheel off. Ugh.

Just make a two piece hub with the brake mounted in a fashion with separate concerns. Like the way a car wheel is mounted. Easy. I think some Italian dudes made some really cool Lefty hubs like this a while back…

Otherwise I love riding on a Lefty. They perform *really* well.

That 2-piece hub would weigh a crazy account more than a lefty hub does now.

Taking the caliper of is really not that much of a hassle at all, since the IS tab is open. You just loosen the caliper and pull it out. It takes 30 seconds, adds no weight or mechanical complication and doesn’t even need to be done very often, since you can change a flat without taking off the wheel.

Source: I was a mechanic for three years at a shop that sold Cannondale. Handled lefties all the time.

Do you know you actually just have to loosen two m5 bolts 1 turn and pop the slotted brake adapter off? Hopefully the shop you bought your bike from showed you this because you DON’T have to take the brake caliper off to take the wheel off. Wrong just like most “knowledge” about the Lefty. Cannondale should either stop pushing the envolope or start showing people why the do the stuff they do.. people don’t get it and that’s their problem.
