IB14: Lake Rolls out New Colors, Blacked Out MX331 Cross Now Shipping

If you happened to catch any of the Eurobike fashion show you know that bright colors are in demand. This is probably why Lake is introducing some eye catching new colorways on both the road and mountain side of the footwear biz. But since life is all about balance, there are also some new all black offerings like the MX331 Cross which will be tearing up race courses this Fall. As always, Stage Race Distribution had the latest on Lake as they continue to distribute the brand in North America.

As some of Lake’s most popular shoes, both the CX and MX 175s get some fresh new color. Available in both the road and mountain versions of each shoe, there will now be a loud hi viz yellow option as well as a bright, but understated by comparison, all red version. Both options will sit alongside the classic black version if that’s your style.

Speaking of all black, the new MX331 Cross is now shipping in both the original orange and the new sinister looking all black variety. Built with a full carbon race sole with Thermaform heel counter, the shoe features a rubber cleat pocket and modular toe and heel spikes designed specifically for cyclocross racing. Constructed with Klite Kangaroo leather and mesh upper, and Outlast heel and toe liner the shoe is ready to take on the barriers.

What do you put on when you win said race? Put on the Lake Podium shoes of course. Ok, these MX237 based flats may or may not ever make it to market, but they do exist. We’re guessing if you’re good enough to be winning big races in a pair of Lake shoes, you might already own a pair…

Ugly.

Designers please return to making designs containing contrast, texture, and sculpted lines please. Who are you trying to appeal to with these retro-ish designs, using colors that probably came out of a dye maker’s bargain bin?

Again, mesh on CX shoes–WTF? Who wants water in their shoes when its in the 40s (F). So needlessly dumb Lake, again–cold feet ruin rides/races, get you sick etc. Nice to see the podium slippers look weather-proof though. I would love to support Lake, maybe someday they’ll hire some cyclists as designers.

Beautiful as ever. Love how this brand has upped their game in the last year or two. Damn nice stuff.

Not sure how these people above fee these are ugly or they would take on water any more than any other cycling shoe. C’mon peeps like any shoe is that water proof or less water prone? And the level of guys (euro cross pros…,) who race these shoes in some pretty crap weather in sure they are fine.

Besides, if you are such a pansy you can’t handle your feet being wet for 30 minutes or so in a cross race you probably should HTFU. 🙂

Lake is the best shoe I’ve had in over 3 decades of racing. The moldable heel is worth the price alone.

To be honest, I couldn’t care less about the graphics (please…)

@Sevo–30 minute cross race–where do you race (or don’t)–gee whiz sometimes I go on 5 hour mountain bike rides in the rain–so yeah I guess I’m just complaining stupidly about wet feet. Also, Sevo I’m glad you’ve never experienced cold, wet near frostbite feet–but I have, so yeah, I don’t support shoes that must be first lined with Tyvex and duct tape to make them weatherproof. I think a good shoe should handle all-weather not just Sevo’s indoor trainer.

If it’s frostbite weather, you ought to be in a proper winter shoe or at least heavy duty “typhoon” booties. I agree- full leather or not, your shoe in a bog means your foot is wet. I also happen to think these look pretty sweet.

I’m willing to bet that Lake isn’t targeting the shoes for frostbite conditions. If you get frostbite, blame yourself, not the shoemaker.

I’d totally use the podium shoes all day long. I wrecked my left foot in an accident 15y ago and my Lake road cycling shoes are the most comfortable shoes I ever had, way better than my street shoes.
