EB14: Crank Brothers Launches Limited Edition Colors for Pedals

Crank Brothers showed off the new entry level Cobalt 1 wheels, Y-tools and other products at Eurobike’s outdoor demo, covered here.

Inside the show, they showed us new, limited edition colors to their pedals that’ll be making their way to market this fall. The plan is an ongoing trickle of new colors, some entirely new, some just mixed-and-matched like the red/black Candies shown above. They’ll be produced in small batches, with limited amounts available to each distributor throughout the world. Your best bet for getting some? Keep on eye on this site for announcements, then hit up your dealer to order. For the U.S., distribution comes from Highway Two.

Ideally I’d like CB to focus on improving the quality of their pedal instead of the color of their pedal. Eggbeaters use to be so tough, but the new quality is awful. My 5+ year old Candy pedals are as good as new, yet I’m on my third pair of Eggbeater (new generation). Thankfully CB knows they fall apart so they rebuild them free.

The last time I heard someone complain about egg beater longevity, they admitted they rode the pedals into rock. Skill deficient rider, rather than build quality issue…

I still have my original pair of Egg Beaters. I only picked up another when I got an additional bike and didn’t want to constantly swap pedals… I’ve redone the bearings – no big deal.

Love the colors, and I love color coordinating the shiny bits on my bike, as much as the next guy / gal does.

Best of all, I even hear that the warranty card will be color coded, too, so that when the pedals inevitably break prematurely, you’ll even be able to match your anodized bits to the warranty paperwork.

@ObligatedToSay: I’ll fix your dilemma. I use Egg Beaters on my CX bikes because, well, I don’t know why. I have an “A” bike and a “B” bike, I keep 4 pairs of pedals though, because I always have at least one pair broken/on it’s way back for warranty. Springs lose their “springyness”, wings rattling around, bearings/bushings developing play, etc.

My last pair of Egg beater 11’s I installed the day before doing a 100mi MTB race. By the end of the race they had so much play they were virtually useless.

Disclaimer: I did NOT ride any of my pedals into rocks and I am under the max weight limit of the Ti pedals.

I’d like to see them offer the color choice “bare metal” like when they started, because the goofy colors always scratch off and look like shite after a while.

The new version of the eggbeater is a huge step backwards in term of service life! One wet ride ride or washing and the “new and improved needle bearings” will get crunchy. The other thing that sucks is that spa treatment has doubled in cost and three pairs of pedals that I sent in went missing. In my opinion stick with the 2 models on their pedals to avoid the crappy needle bearings.
Love the release, have never broken anything and have been using them for 10 year CX, XC and enduro, however my days of telling people how great they are has come to an end.
