Frostbike: xpedo Shows new Jek Platform Pedals, Varying Spindles for Thrust 8s

If you’re looking for lightweight pedals that won’t break the bank, Xpedo’s Spry pedals are still very hard to beat. In addition to the flyweight magnesium pedals, Xpedo is introducing a new platform pedal that is slightly heavier and slightly more expensive. Wait, what? While the Sprys proved to be quite durable under Saris’ feet, the new Jek aluminum pedal is designed to be even more durable with a fully CNC machined body, and a full length spindle. The result is a full bodied flat that should offer plenty of grip and still at an impressive price.

You can’t fault Xpedo pedals for having wimpy traction pins. The Jek is equipped with 16 shin eating pins per pedal. Jek’s profile is thin, but not quite as thin as the Spry mostly due to the axle extending to the outer edge of the body.

Traction pins are all threaded into the body using allen screws from the opposite side so you can still remove them after bashing against rocks. Like the Spry, Jek uses dual sealed bearings and an inner DU bushing.

At 191g per pedal, the pair weighs 362g. Jeks will sell for $89 in red, blue, black, and silver.

As a trend we saw from a number of pedal manufacturers at the show, Xpedo is introducing a spindle length adjustment kit for their Thrust road pedals. Pedals come stock with a 53mm spindle, while replacements will be available in 50, 56, 59, and 62mm lengths. In addition, the spindles have an extra long threaded section that will allow for 2 spindle washers to help fitters tune in a rider’s pedal dynamics.

My Spry’s weighed in at an actual 250g for the pair with pins. Hard to beat @ $75 shipped.

My Spry’s weighed in at an actual 250g (not the claimed 268g) for the pair with pins. Hard to beat @ $75 shipped.

“At 191g per pedal, the pair weighs 362g.” – I’m pretty sure something’s wrong here 🙂
