Chrome Bags Knurled Welded heavy duty waterproof lightweight saddle pannier bags for bicycle touring and commuting

We spotted these at Interbike, where a small Manneken Pis was illustrating the waterproofness of the new Chrome Knurled Welded bags. Now, we’ve got all the specs and much, much better photographs (and even a set on the way for actual review!).

The line offers several options for on the bike and on the body, all using knurled, welded seams that they say provide 150% more waterproof seal contact area. That, combined with the 800lb pull strength, 600 Denier poly-lined uppers and Hypalon bottom panel, create an extremely tough, waterproof set of bags.

The Saddle Bag (shown above) and Front Rack Rolltop Duffle let the bike carry the mounting hardware. This leaves the bags looking perfectly normal off the bike, too, without sacrificing ride-worthiness.

So, they’re tough, waterproof and versatile. They’re also very lightweight, and all items are guaranteed for life. Interested? Slide past the break for pics and all the specs (UPDATE: Several specs corrected, indicated in italics throughout)…

Similar to the Timbuk2 offerings I guess, only more expensive.

These look like a step in the right direction, and could be a good choice for a lot of tourists and commuters. I do think it’s a bit disingenuous to plaster an American flag at the top of your site/branding and then not denote the country of origin of your products. I do not think these are made in Chico.

right from their website:

“We’re proud to make 70% of our bags in America. Our bag factory in Chico, California has been making bags for almost thirty years. These are some of the best made bags and socks in the world. Made in the USA.”

Just picked up one of the Saddlebag Rolltop 20 bags the other day. It’s pretty nifty. The mounting system is nice. I had my reservations about it but I like the fact that the bag back is flat when off the bike.

A couple more corrections: The Saddlebag Rolltop 20 has a price of $160 on the Chrome website (you don’t give it), and the weight is given as 0.6 lbs, not the whopping 7 lbs you list. They also say 10″x23″x6″, not 10″x16″x6″. (Or maybe you got the specs right, but the model name wrong!)

The 7lb weight is accurate. The bag is about a half-pound, but the fact they hide is that te mounting frame that stays on the bike is steel, making it a boat anchor at over 6lb. Do NOT buy these saddlebags if you have any climbing on your commute. I regret this purchase.
