Cervelo Arduro Aura Pro Recall

Due to an issue affecting the 3T Aduro aero bar used as standard equipment, 2012 and 2013 Cervelo P5s are part of a voluntary safety recall between Cervelo, 3T, and the CPSC. Specifically, the issue seems to involve the base bar and the ultra low mount and the potential for the threaded inserts in the carbon to come loose which can result in the aero extensions to separate from the base bar. Riders are urged to not ride their bikes until they have been checked and repaired as necessary. As part of the recall the aero bars will be replaced free of charge and customer who purchased the ultra low mount will have the option for a full refund of the ultra low mount (meaning they will have to use the low mount instead) or the option of replacing the aero bars with the 3T Mistral  bars with a low position mount that results in a similar riding position to the Aduros with the ultra low mount. The recall affects about 1,300 bikes in the US and 225 bikes in Canada. So far there have been 28 reports of incidents with one broken collar bone. Bikes that have already been inspected and are safe to ride will have a green sticker with a red é on the bottom of the base bar.

Cervélo P5 with 3T Aduro aerobar recall
3T and Cervélo are voluntarily recalling Cervélo P5 bicycles with 3T Aduro aero bars for a safety check and, if necessary, safety upgrade. The affected aerobar were fitted as original equipment only to certain Cervélo P5 bicycle models of the model years 2012 and 2013. The recall involves replacing the two major components of the aerobar which are the base bar and the ultra low mount, explained in detail below. In the US, this recall program is being managed under the auspices of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). You can read the CPSC/3T/Cervélo voluntary recall notice here).

The recall includes 2012 and 2013 Cervélo P5 bicycles equipped with 3T Aduro aero handlebars. The bicycles are black with red and white stripes. “P5” is on the seat tube, “Cervélo” is on the top tube and a large “é” is on the down tube in white lettering. The handlebars consist of four major components: a base bar, which attaches to the bike; a forward extension mount, which attaches to the base bar; forearm rests and forward extension bars, which attach to the forward extension mount. The base bar is black with red and white stripes and has “3T” on the top and rear. The handlebars come with both a high and a low forward extension mount, one of which will be installed based on customer fit. Consumers can purchase an ultra-low forward extension mount separately. The words “Ultimate Performance” are on the forward extensions. The handlebars were manufactured between January 2012 and July 2012. Serial numbers for the handlebars are on a label inside the base bar under the stem cap on the rear wall. The serial number is the seven-digit number following “FM78-Basebar-.” The manufacture date code is the first four digits of the serial number in the MMYY format. Date codes for the defective handlebars range from 1201 to 1207. P5 bicycles which have already been inspected and passed at retailers are distinguished by a green sticker with an “é” on the underside of the Aduro base bar.

Who’s affected: Customers who have bicycles fitted with 3T Aduro bars should stop riding them at once and contact your local Cervélo retailer to perform a safety check. You can find your closest local retailer via the Cervélo retailer locater at http://www.cervelo.com/en/find-a-retailer.html.

How to identify the bar: The aero bar needs to be disassembled in order to identify if it is affected by the safety measures or not. Thus it is necessary to contact your local Cervélo retailer as only he is qualified to perform the check.

Affected bars will be identified by their serial numbers.

The Aduro bar is characterized by its unique design tailored to fit the Cervélo P5 bike.
