If you’ve ever pointed a dual crown fork down the side of a mountain, then chances are good you’ve either used or thought about using some body armor. You know – just in case you come up a little short on that last double. However, based on the conditions or the track, the same level of protection isn’t always needed and let’s face it, if it’s uncomfortable you’re going to leave it back at the lodge. As one of the most modular suits of armor we’ve seen, the new iXS Cleaver takes the protective jacket to another light weight, flexible, comfortable level.

Check out how the Cleaver breaks down, next.

In order to make the jacket as protective yet light weight as possible, iXS opts for a Hex Matter material which improves energy absorption through hexagonal cells. Built like a honeycomb, the cells keep the weight and desity down, while offering EN1621-2 Level1 approved protection. Paired with VentMesh, the Hex Matter allows for an extremely breathable shield of armor which is something greatly appreciated on a hot day(usually the reason I left my gear back in the room). At the core of the Cleaver is the back protector which can be run as is, without any other components. Featuring Armadillo2 plates and a removable upper thoracic section for neck brace compatibility, the protector also offers an adjustable height and length waist belt. You can purchase the Back protector alone for €119.95 in XSS, ML, or LXL sizes.

Interested in protecting your front as well as your back? Then step up to the Cleaver Vest. At € 179.95, the Vest adds chest protection that can be used with, or without the additional rib protectors. There will also be a women’s specific lighter weight chest protector available soon that was developed with the Trek Gravity Girls.

If you plan on needing all the protection at some point just in case you rag doll down a rock garden, you’re best off buying the full Cleaver Jacket right off the bat. Retailing for € 279.95 (~$379), the Cleaver isn’t the cheapest, but you are basically getting all in one protection including elbow pads that can be worn separately. All of the padding features moisture wicking, antimicrobial treatments, and a NockOut vented and removeable 3D impact design.

Not sure if you’re going to need the full monty? Chest kits and sleeve kits are available separately so you can upgrade in the future – for € 75.95 and € 109.95 respectively. Now it’s time to get comfortable, and drop in.

Please make this armor available in bright white so I can ride with my Imperial Stormtrooper helmet. 😉
