Strava adds Sufferfest training videos for premium members

Yet another reason, and perhaps one of the more compelling, to upgrade to Strava’s premium service is the new feature that gives you access to The Sufferfest’s training videos via mobile devices. Sufferfest made their videos available for streaming a couple months back, and now they’re available to all premium Strava members, too!

Hopefully it’s the start of a full integration of power measurement and such into their videos, but for now you can graph your output along with the duration of the video.

Full PR after the break…

Strava, the brand that helps athletes all over the world experience social fitness, announced a new indoor training option for cyclists through the delivery of training videos from The Sufferfest. The videos are designed to provide extra motivation to help cyclists stay fit, reach peak performance, and meet training goals when the elements force them to train indoors.

“We are excited to bring The Sufferfest to Strava cyclists around the world,” said Michael Horvath, co-founder and CEO at Strava. “Adding quality video content provides them with instruction and extra motivation, and it comes at just the right time for many of our athletes who don’t want to let weather get in the way of their workouts.”

Each video in The Sufferfest series features a structured workout focused on a particular training element such as speed, time trialing, climbing and more. Three videos are available now and more will be added periodically for Strava Premium members.

“We look forward to welcoming Strava’s athletes to Sufferlandria,” said David McQuillen, CEO of The Sufferfest. “These athletes are used to pushing themselves to their limits out on the road, and they’ll find that our videos, featuring the world’s best professional races, help them do the same indoors.”

The addition of video content complements Strava’s existing training tools:

  • Training Calendar: Easily view all activities along with yearly and monthly totals for duration, distance, personal records, and number activities.
  • Goals: Set time goals on favorite segments, or set a power goal for a popular time interval.
  • Power Data: Power meter users can view their power vs. duration curve, overlaying multiple graphs drawing data from individual rides or variable time frames to track their progress.
  • Fitness & Freshness: These indexes allow power meter uses to gauge training load and arrive at key events thoroughly trained but not overloaded.
  • Challenges: A constantly evolving assortment of challenges allow athletes to achieve a common training goal, earn new achievements, and see how they compare to other participants trying to achieve the same goal.

Availability and Pricing
Training videos are available to Strava Premium members now. They can be viewed through the Strava Cycling app on iOS or Android mobile devices, and soon on strava.com. Premium Membership is available for $6 per month or $59 annually.

I was kind of disappointed with Strava Premium up until now but this will make it entirely worth it.
