Each season, the Rapha Continental teams link up with small builders for fresh road bikes to take on the open road, paved and less than paved. One of this year’s bikes is this Columbus XCR stainless steel beauty from German builder Vandeyk.

The frame uses oversized tubing for the downtube and a 44mm headtube allowing for a tapered steerer. This gives the steel a more modern look and feel without giving up the characteristic ride qualities. Other unique touches include the house-made dropouts, extended chainstay length and increased tire clearance for a smoother ride off the beaten path…which is what the Continental teams are all about…

Each Vandeyk is unique. Check the slick cable guides under the bottom bracket shell.

The stripes on the chainstays and fork are code for “continental”. This thing’s just begging for hydraulic brakes now that they’re finally official.

Spec includes parts from SRAM, Fizik, Chris King, 3T and ENVE. Continental tires, naturally.

We’ve got a heads up on one of the new builders for the North American team for 2014, we just can’t say yet. But we saw it being built, and it’s sweeeeeet!

that bike is absolutely gorgeous, but why on earth would you ever paint a stainless frame?

Vandeyk does not build frames, he is designing them. Actually the frame is built by Georg Blaschke – http://www.gebla.de

Rapha AND Chris King on the same bike? Good thing I had enough beer tonight to blame my vomiting on that. So sad to ruin such an otherwise righteous bicycle.

It’s hard to see what about Chris King components induce vomiting, unless high quality induces vomiting.

Chris King does no wrong. If you decked out a URT frame from the 90’s in Chris King it would still be an awesome bike. Rapha is up for discussion, but I’m finding it harder to argue against them when they generate so much exposure for the sport. And have the best graphics in the industry. Gorgeous bike.

I dig it, nice execution. King comment: doesn’t compute. Eyal, thanks for the vid link, that brightened my day. Zullo drops a very insightful line: “Cycling made me realize I was happy.” That man has a way with words, and his hands.

nice paintjob / graphics, but for the rest, nothing really stunning… don’t like the giant haedtube and the mech discs, but hey, that’s me nagging 🙂

do like the initiative of building something different than normal. tiziano zullo is a legend.

It’s amazing what a bit of nice discrete graphic can do with an otherwise plain frame.

Can someone please let me know what rims those are? Is it possible that a disc specific road rim actually exists?

(Exists as in “available for purchase” not “pictured on the internet”)

I’m pretty sure the rims are ENVE XC 29″ rims. I use them on my disc CX bike myself.
