Chrome Develops New Citizen Artist Series Based on Milliman Photography
Continuing their tradition of collaborating with influential artists each season, Chrome is looking towards photography for the latest Artist Series messenger bag. Incorporating iconic cycling images into the fabric of the bags, Chrome is highlighting the work of Chris Milliman – a photographer known for capturing all things cycling from the tour, to cyclocross. Chrome’s artist series celebrates painters, graphic designers, printers, and photographers who inspire them and once all the limited editions are gone, they’re gone.
Featured on each bag are one of four photographs; the Belgian crowd lining the tape at a cyclocross race, the rusty iron bridge structures overlooking the bike lanes of Chicago, the streets of the windy city, and the familiar line of bike wheels hanging in a bike shop. Check them out after the break.
Milliman is quoted as saying, “I think cities are better places to ride in than ever before. They’re not perfect, by a long shot, but the culture is there and the infrastructure is following. As the number of urban riders increases, I can see riding in cities getting better and the culture diversifying.” Milliman also mentions, “I’d like to see urban cycling photography diversify, too. I think it needs to. The first and second waves have crested; it’s time for people to create what’s next. Every significant culture has its own visual style and I love how the urban cycling visuals have developed and evolved. When I’m in a city it seems like half the urban riders are carrying cameras. Creating and documenting are important to generating new ideas about what can be done with urban cycling.”
Each Artist Photo series starts as a Citizen Buckle messenger bag and is printed with one of the four photographs on the outer D panel of the bag and interior liner. All the bags have a brown Cordura outer shell with an interior splash of color depending on the photo along with an exclusive woven patch hinting towards the days of film photography.
Zonnebeke, Chicago Steel, Locals Only, and Shop Rat bags will all retail for $160.
