Spinergy 29er XL carbon fiber rim mountain bike wheels

Spinergy has unveiled new 29er XL carbon rimmed race wheels. They’re definitely aimed at the XC crowd – rim width is a narrow 22.6mm (about 19 mm inside). That sounds awfully narrow by today’s standards, but it’s about the same as Mavic’s CrossMax series, which still perform admirably. Add some tape and they can be set up tubeless.

Rim weight is a claimed 380g, and a complete set is 1380g. Click on through for pics and new road stuff…

They’ll offer 9mm QR/15 thru front axles, and 135×10 QR and 142×12 thru axle rear. Standard and XX1 free hub bodies available. Retail is $2,600. I’m thinking these would actually make some pretty good cyclocross wheels…

The new aero blades spokes are available on any of their road wheels. They use the same 30,000-strand PBO fiber spokes with a nylon coating, just pressed in a different mold to be flat.

The Mtn wheels are too flippin narrow! I’d say the only use for them would be as CX wheels…

I had some Spinergy AM wheels a few years ago (no longer that rig was stolen) and I really liked the hubs. I heard that Hadley made them but I cant confirm that. The customer service was also really good as well. However, they were very flexy and the PBO spokes were a b * t c h to keep tight.

Stupid narrow rims. This isn’t the 90s anymore. Tubeless needs wider rims.
