As the seemingly never ending quest for more speeds marches on, hub manufacturers are having to adapt with two different freehub bodies – XX1, and Shimano 11 speed. While Chris King said they were looking into producing an XX1 freehub when Saris spoke to them, they are definitely stepping up for Shimano drivetrains with the new 11 speed compatible R45 road hubs.

In addition, King has released a new InSet 8 headset to accommodate bikes with 1 1/4″ to 1 1/8″ tapered steerer tube.

More details after the break.

Like all King hubs, the 100% Portland made hub uses Chris Kings stock stainless or upgradeable to ceramic bearings and comes with a 5-year warranty. The hubs will be available in ten anodized colors – Black, Silver, Pewter, Red, Navy, Green, Gold, Mango, Pink, and Brown and will be offered in multiple drillings. Front hubs are available in 16, 18, 20, 24, 28, and 32 hole varieties, as are the rear hubs excluding the 16, and 18 hole options.

According to King, US National Cyclocross Team member Danny Summerhill can be spotted out on the new 11 speed R45s this weekend at CX Worlds.

In order to accommodate frames with 44mm head tubes and 1-1/8” to 1-1/4” steerer tube forks, King has introduced the InSet 8. Compatible with either 1-1/8” to 1-1/4” steerer tubes or straight 1 1/8″ steerers with a Devo 1-1/4” to 1-1/8” baseplate, the headset keeps King adds yet another headset standard to their quiver.

The InSet will be offered in 10 anodized colors and carries the standard 10 year King Headset warranty.

Apparently King could not resist any longer the inset headset design. Must have lost a lot of sales previously.

They have been doing inset for a while. They probably have lost a lot of sales from the integrated market, as king refuses to make them because they suck.

i adore chris king products and their associated quality. that said, chris king’s rant on integrated headsets is among the most worthless techno-babble out there. does anyone seriously discern any performance difference between an integrated headset and other designs? if you do, you’re full of s**t. maybe you should hang with lance. booyah.

King should do a shimano compatible 21 hole rear hub with less spoke holes on the non drive side soon… Or how about an 11 speed with center lock ready disc compatibility… Future proofing !
