“Rising from Ashes is a feature length documentary about two worlds colliding when cycling legend Jock Boyer moves to Rwanda, Africa to help a group of struggling genocide survivors pursue their dream of a national team. As they set out against impossible odds both Jock and the team find new purpose as they rise from the ashes of their past.”

What happened in Rwanda was for a large part the fault of colonial policy. The Belgians followed
the tried and true strategy of favouring a minority to act as proxy elite (Tutsis) to subdue to majority
Hutus. Ack it’s a pity it happened but it is great that there is now a positive message coming out of Rwanda.

A “pity”?

Wow.

What “Jock” Boyer did in the past may someday be forgiven by those he hurt but can never be erased or forgotten:

As a proud supporter of Team Rwanda, I can’t wait to see this movie! Forget Lance and all the controversy, these guys show us why the bicycle is a force for good.

It’s not a pity when you set on people against another. It’s criminal and appalling.

I think you guys are unfairly piling on Dan for his choice of words. Have you seen the Marcel Ophuls film “The Sorrow and the Pity” (same word in French)? You should. Language fails in the face of genocide.

Fred, thanks for posting those links. I am shocked. Are these allegations of child molestation? Or are they true? I saw the video and had some small interest in watching the documentary, but I am definitely not going to support a child molester.

Ajax,

Those are not allegations, he was tried and convicted and served a year in prison and five years probation. Bikerumor did “bad” journalism by not making this clear in their post.

No matter what “Jock” Boyer did in the past, I would still support Uganda’s athletes because they did nothing wrong and are deserving of support.
