New Mountain Bike Mini Pump from SKS Brings Looks, Features for Cheap
While a mountain bike specific mini pump may not seem like quite the anomaly as a MTB-only floor pump, we’re happy to see the specialization.
The new SKS Aeron offers a 72psi (5 bar) max pressure and should pump things up quickly with its large volume canister. I like the thread on, flexible hose of the Topeak model I reviewed, but I’m finding more circumstances where a thread-on-only pump just doesn’t work. The SKS Aeron solves this with a one-size-fits-all valve head and clamp lever that’ll keep it in place while you’re pumping away. It’s just $24.99 and includes a matching frame holder.
Bonus: The metal body looks like it’ll hold up better than some other SKS mini pumps we’ve reviewed. At 157g, it’s not too heavy, but it’s vying for weight weenie status like those all plastic ones.

When does the thread on version not work?
Ted, I’ve had two situations where it doesn’t work:
1) when there are no threads (usually on road tubes or when valve extenders are necessary)
2) when the stem has a removable core and unthreading the hose pulls the core out with it, releasing all of the air.
Both are very frustrating.
