They are Addidas Systeme 3 pedals. They had to be used with the Addidas shoes.The shoe was the cleat. It had grooves in the side of the sole. You slid you foot onto the pedals. The lever released the shoe.

Yep, I remember those Adidas pedals. I believe Merckx also had a version called Podio.

They have been launch just before the first generation of LOOK in 85-86

I raced on a demo pair of these in the 80’s, road and criteriums, they were not just a track and they had two release settings and a locked setting – you had to put them in lock mode for sprints. Laurent Fignon wore them for a while as well
