2012 Kore Components Repute DH freeride stem

Kore has restructured their lineup and hired Ollie Thomas, former brand manage for Funn, with the goal of getting back on track in the MTB market. In the last six months, they’ve dropped their road, fixie and BMX items, alog with most of their cyclocross parts to focus mainly on mountain bikes. One of their sales agents is really into ‘cross, so they will be expanding that line again, including some disc wheels, but for now just a few of those items will carry forward. The new stuff is all about MTB.

First up is the new Repute Stem, a forged AL 6061 T6 piece that’s CNC’d after forging for a stronger, lighter stem than comparable competitive offerings. It’ll come in 35mm (126g) and 50mm (163g) lengths. Retail will be about $70 USD.

The Duroc is their all-mountain stem in 60mm (147g), 75mm (161g) and 90mm (175g). Retail will be about $65-$70 USD.

Torsion SX pedals are a revamp of their Elite pedal with agreed edges, angled approach sections and basically brings the design in line with what people are using.

The new OCD Bar one ups their Transition bar to rule the line up. It’s 800mm wide and weighs in at just 285g with a 35mm rise. Thomas achieved the weight by using FEA to find the highest stress areas and reinforce them then cut material where it wasn’t needed. It’s triple butted with a 7° upsweep and 5° backsweep. Also available with 0mm and 20mm rise options in polished gray, red or black. MSRP is $71.

Remember that Easton 35mm bar they didn’t want anyone to know about? Well, Kore is working with Michigan State University to test a new 35mm bar and stem versus the 31.8 bars. Because the diameter is larger, they can theoretically go with a thinner walled bar and lighter overall bar/stem combo.

I have no doubt that the bars are strong enough, but 285g for a 800mm bar is silly light for aluminum and likely to be pretty flexy. Diety came up with some wide alu bars at a similar weight that were just too flexy. I liked the old torsion bars with their stiff, confidence inspiring construction. The bend was just perfect for me. Felt like an identical bend to the Enve carbon bars btw.
