Wabi-cycles-classicRichard over at Wabi Cycles and been pumping out some cool fixed gear bikes for a while now.  Their understated branding, classic design, and low weight have kept them on my radar.  Today we received notice that the updated versions of the Wabi Classic and the Wabi Lightning are in stock.  Both bikes received some sensible upgrades this go around.  Some of the upgrades came from Richard, and some were customer suggestions.

The Classic is a sub 19 lbs  steel fixie made from tig welded Reynolds 725 tubes with road inspired geometry.  The new version now includes discreet fender and rack mounts hidden on the inside of the fork blades and seat stays.  Fatter tires are now compatible, as  32mm rubber now fits.  The traditional headset has been updated to a press fit version.  The stem has been upgraded to a new, lighter 17 degree version that shaves off 25 grams.  And last but not least, hydration was giving more consideration by adding on a second set of bottle bosses on the seat tube.  $750 and this beauty is yours.

Head past the jump for the Lightning updates and more images.

Wabi-cycles-lightningThe Lightning has received similar upgrades, and it was put on a diet as well.  I have had my eye on this scandium tubed fixed gear bicycle since its introduction, and a good thing just got better.  The Lightning also gets a second set of bottle bosses on the seat tube, and the new, lighter stem.  The standard drop bars have been replaced by bull horns (although drop bars are still an option).  Standard now is one front brake actuated by one top mount lever.  The cool looking dreamcicle paint sticks around, while the ano matte black is replaced by a gloss pearl black.  For the not so tall among us you are in luck.  The Lightning now comes in a 42cm frame size, uses 650c wheels, fits those 4′ 9″ to 5′ 3″, and weights just 14.1 lbs!  It the stock configuration, a 55cm frame comes in at 15.1 lbs.  Not to shabby for $900.  Look for a full review in the coming months.

wabi-cycles-specialWabi wants you to be happy with their product, so each bike has a list of configurable options.  Gearing, fixed or free, drop bars, one or two brakes, and even the saddle type are customizable.  And, if the Classic or Lightning doesn’t do it for you (maybe you are more of a traditionalist), there is The Special.  It is a fully lugged, brazed frame made using investment cast lugs, and Reynolds 725 steel.  The frame is hand built in Tiwan, and then assembled in L.A. by Wabi.  $950 makes it yours.
