BMC took advantage of Sea Otter’s crowds to debut their first full-carbon 150mm mountain bike, the Trailfox TF01.

The Trailfox got a complete makeover at Interbike last year, with travel bumping from 140mm to 150mm. The new full carbon version takes simply takes it a step further in stiffness while mimicking the alloy model’s heavily shaped tube profiles.

Weights, official press release, specs and more photos and info after the break…

The 2012 Trailfox TF01 will come in the white/black XTR build shown at top. The SRAM X0 build gets that and this matte black frame color, too. Other than that, they both have Fizik saddles and Reverb posts, Easton Haven cockpits and Onza tires. The main difference, other than drivetrains, is that the XTR build gets the Haven Carbon wheels and the X0 gets the alloy rimmed Havens. They both have the same Fox FIT RL fork and RP23BV shock.

This is a size medium XTR model without pedals weighing in at 25lbs 7oz.

Up front, it gets a tapered headtube. The top- and downtubes take advantage of the width to create wide, stiff shapes. Both the downtube and seat tubes meet at the full width of the bottom bracket shell, too.

Downtube cable clamps keep things clean and a carbon fiber cable guard protects the cables and frame from rocks, logs and those kamikaze squirrels. Stainless steel chainsuck/drop guards are on the downtube and chainstay to protect the frame.

The linkage pieces are 3D forged aluminum, and on the drive side the frame has pre-printed sag indicators to line up with the top rocker arm, making set up a breeze. The same size bearing is used in all pivots. Removable toptube cable clamps make it easy to run the lines for a dropper seatpost. BMC designed the seatpost clamp to be glove friendly. BMC worked directly with Fox to develop the spring rates and suspension performance to make the TF a very performance oriented marathon racer.

Full carbon postmount brake mounts and a Shimano 12×142 rear axle round out the package. Since the Trailfox model’s introduction in 2007, travel has grown from 120mm and chainstay length has shrunk considerably. It’s received some pretty positive reviews recently, so this new carbon model looks like it might just be pretty good. We’re working on getting one in for review.

PRESS RELEASE:

With the new Trailfox, BMC launches the first full carbon 150 mm travel bike. Following the heritage of the Trailfox within the BMC Mountainbike Range, the new Trailfox aims at being the most versatile bike out there. One bike for all, ready for Enduro, Tour or even Marathon.

And with the benchmark weight of 11.5 kg, the Trailfox is on target. The trailfox allows maximum power transfer, because the APS system offers very efficient acceleration and very good traction. The tapered headtube and the 12mm through axle front and back make a perfect handling. A bike that is supposed to ride on all terrain needs a durable frame: The BMC trailfox has a special shield to protect the carbon downtube from rocks and stones impact.

“The BMC trailfox sets a new mark. Especially in the US, people now realize that Swiss technology and precision also makes a better Mountainbike.” says Frank Schreiner, HoM. “The trailfox rounds up the portfolio, but you can expect more to come pretty soon. Register for a test ride of the BMC trailfox at Sea Otter at the BMC area. The bike flies…”
