Somehow, just like last year, we managed to hit Kirk Frameworks near the end of our trip to NAHBS when we’re tired of pecking at a digital keyboard and taking notes, so there’s mostly just pics on this one (sorry).

Above is the JK Special road bike built up with Campagnolo Super Record 11, Fulcrum Racing Zero 7 wheels, 3T bar/stem/post and a Fizik saddle. It has a retail of $7,895 but was on special at the show for $6,895. While it looks like a fairly straightforward bike from the pic above, the devil is in the details, shown behind the jump.

He also had some trick bits on display to make any road bike look a little fancier…

The frame is silver brazed lugged steel using tubes from various manufacturers depending on rider size and style. It starts at $3,600 for the frame with steel fork and single color paint. Here’s David Kirk’s description of it:

The JK Special is a modern race bike with a sloping top tube, distinguished by a proprietary blend of tubes and lugs selected to create a dedicated lightweight race bike with race-oriented fit and lively handling. The frame is lighter and stiffer than my previous offerings.

Check out the brake bridge and small details on head tube lugs.

Very nice cable guides on the bottom of the BB shell surround a big, shapely drainage hole.

The JKS X is built with oversized tubing for larger riders or those that frequent rougher roads. It’s available with his Terraplane seat stays to soften the ride a bit:

The frame with steel fork, carbon seatpost and single color paint is $3,850. Add $300 for the curved stays.

His brass cable barrel adjusters are $10 for the pair, including shipping.

minimal dropout for road bikes

His dropouts are very minimal, which gives the bikes a light, nimble appearance.

The orange frame looks pretty damned fine, and its traditional geometry looks almost exotic in the monkey see, monkey do industry awash in compact frames. Variety really is a good thing.
