King Cage had a water bottle cage making machine in their booth at NAHBS and demonstrated how they make ’em. From the point where the video leaves off, they weld on two bridges between the lower tubes that have the holes for the mounting bolts. The upper one closes the loop, too, as it’s welded on.

They also had a new titanium chainguard they made and some other stuff after the break…

If you’re going to keep your chain from mucking up your trousers, you may as well do it with an $80 titanium guard, right? They also had one made from galvanized steel for $60, but said they probably won’t actually produce it.

They had several attachment methods presented. The above version sits around the bottom bracket on larger cruiser-style BB’s. They also had small brackets that could bolt to water bottle bosses put into the frame by a custom builder, and several variations that used the following screw-down O-rings:

In otherwords, you could find the stuff at your local hardware store to make it fit.

Below, they introduced a new 3.5″ standard for the bolt hole distance on the water bottles and are pushing the industry to accept the wider bolt spacing. New cages will include adapters to fit the standard 2.5″ spacing until everyone else catches up:

Yes, it’s a joke. But you should have seen people’s faces when they explained it.

Man, you had me going with the new water bottle cage mount standard! I feel like a such a sucker, but with all the other “new standards” out there, it seems that nothing is safe.

Thanks for some great coverage from the Hand Made Bicycle show. Great to see that American craftsmen (and women) are equal to, and in many cases better than, anyone else in the world. One can hope that this pride and commitment to craft and quality will spread throughout out American society.

After watching the video, I’m gonna go out a on a limb here and say that’s not his first time to do that.

Pretty nifty.

Thanks for the video and pics.

Jake.
