We posted the announcement of Look’s collabo with Polar when they first made them public, but Interbike gave us a little close up, hands on time with them.

The summary: Look’s Keo Power pedals will come with a separate sensor for left and right that plugs into the backside of the pedal’s spindle, then transmits power data to a Polar computer. Like the Garmin/Metrogear system, it’ll allow for independent power measurement for each leg, letting hardcore cyclists and data freaks work out balance issues and lose more sleep, and for the rest of us it’ll provide some (expensive) entertainment on group rides and pre-race banter.

More after the break…

While the sensor looks obtrusive from this angle, it actually sits mostly behind the crankarm when it’s in the 6 o’clock position, meaning ground clearance shouldn’t be an issue.

The Keo Power/Polar system will only work on Polar’s wireless standard, not ANT+.

Some examples of the Polar cycling computers it’ll work with: CS500 and CS600X

No Ant+. There goes a lot of potential users. Players in today’s market should realize that users want options, not limits.

By making it proprietary and not ANT+ compatible, they’ve just prevented myself and a bunch of people I know from ever looking at it. It’s a real shame too, because it looks like it has the potential to be an exciting product.
