Press Release: This weekend a Raleigh local, Derek Keller, will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Track Stand at the 6BC Endurance Race and 5th Annual Fat Tire Festival in Chapel Hill this Saturday, October 16th.

The festival, hosted by Briar Chapel and Triangle Off-Road Cyclists (TORC), will also feature games, a rock climbing wall, local vendors and brand representatives, demo bikes, trail rides, kid activities, a 6-hour endurance race, and much more.

FYI, the current Guinness World Record for the Longest Track Stand is 21.34 (minutes? hours?*) by Jim DeChamp (USA) at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, USA, on 18 November 2008 for the MTV show ‘Nitro Circus’. Derek will be shooting for much longer using a trials bike.

(UPDATE: OK, this is a journalism fail…we’re trying to find some verification of his record, but if anyone has a link or knows otherwise, leave a comment.)

“21.34 sec”?

That must be hours rather than seconds.

21.34 seconds is the correct record set by Jim DeChamp. Video from Nitro Circus where it was set: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9ldSt22hdc

I am attempting to break this record myself. According to the email I just received from Guiness last week the record was set by Rudi Jan Jozef De Greef (Belgium) whom stayed stationary without support for 10 hours at Meensel-Kiezegem, Belgium on 19 November 1982. I also contacted them about setting the longest “hands-free” track stand and “one handed” track stand which they haven’t gotten back to be about. That said, I find it hard to believe that watching someone break the current record would be fun to watch.
